Rush Heads

Anybody else jacked up for the new Rush R40 Tour?

For those who have been to a Rush show before, can you put it into words?

  • it's amazing. If they play a song you really, really, want to hear, it is FUCING AMAZING!

And the drum solo is ahhhhhhh.

    You rang.......?

I've seen Rush a few times. First time was March of '86, Power Windows Tour and I had waited years to see them by then so I was absolutely jacked. We drove hours through a serious blizzard for that one. On the floor, center, a few rows back. Geddy was buried behind a fortress of keyboards back then so it was that much cooler when he did his signature 'hop' to center stage to jam with Alex, who seems to have a perma grin in every concert I've seen. Saw them again in March of '90 for the Presto tour and that was another blazing show. After that I guess I've seen them every tour since they "returned" with Vapor Tales, sometimes catching several shows per tour. But that 1st VT tour after their comeback was pretty special imo. I caught their 5th show back, 4th of July in Raleigh, NC. My wife and kids have all gone multiple times and are now in the Know.

Rush live is such a cool experience. It's different somehow then any other concerts I've seen. Hard to describe. I've been a fan since I was 12 years old so I know all the lyrics, drum fills and solos to most songs so I find myself locked right into whatever they are playing, oblivious to my surroundings. Plus, they alway have the top-o-the-line light/video/pyro show to go along with their near-flawless playing. And you never know when they will pack it in and you might be seeing them for the last time......

  • I got the tickets today in presale for the R40 show in Calgary July 15th! 16th row, dead center. Can't wait!

I know it may seem weird to some people, but if it wasn't for Pearl Jam, Rush would be my favorite. If you have never seen them live do yourself a favour. Just like PJ they play a 3 hour show with no opening act.
It is what sets bands apart. A 15 song 75 minute show..or an epic performance. Bring it!

One big difference between PJ & RUSH is that concert sets hardly ever changes while with PJ their sets can change every night. However, for this R40 set it appears RUSH will have two sets to be able to get in more songs their fans haven't heard live in some time. They speak on this in my thread Love & Despise Of The Band RUSH.

  • No opening band, 3 hour shows, a 5-10 minute Peart solo every night, and they are about as polished as you can get for a live performance. They were the first band I ever saw live, and I've seen them on every tour since Test for Echo (7 shows total). They've only screwed up on stage once, if my memory serves me correctly.

    Yes.

R40 in Boston will be something like my 22nd show, give or take 1.

They are mesmerizing. 3 guys on stage producing a wall of sound, and plenty of visuals to accompany it all. Now when I see them I am just happy at how happy they look. They are all in their 60s and the ONLY reason they are still doing it is because they want to. It is truly inspiring.

I think the first time they went the 3 hour format with no opening was the T4E Tour. I was sitting there Capital Centre MD saying to myself what a brilliant idea. There I discovered Rage Against The Machine, anyway one can go get beer, souvenirs and for older citizens bathroom break during the intermission....just a chance to catch your breath. Tampa will be #50 for me and 3 more after that this summer.

I can't wait after speeding all last summer cooped up in a hospital recovering from ankle surgery.

I do believe you are correct. I freaking loved that tour! Opening with Dreamline, playing the entire 2112, and Natural Science were the highest points for me. And long before ever getting into the PJ bootlegs, I was ecstatic when Rush announced Different Stages, so I could re-live the experience!

I'm going to guess no additional dates.

Yeah, I'm sure Neil already has his motorcycle logistics from show to show planned out. Can't imagine him being diplomatic about adding stops in between.

Really sad to think this might be that last full tour for Rush. Looking forward to the Vancouver show.
