Martin Luther King Day

I came across this quote this morning on the Sea Shepherd web site. Dr. King encouraged us us to do what's right for people AND animals. How cool that is.

“Never, never be afraid to do what's right, especially if the well-being of a person or animal is at stake. Society's punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way.”
“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man [or woman] who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”
Variously credited to Mark Twain or Edward Abbey.

I don't know enough about MLK's personality, etc. Only what you read and see about him. But today's world needs another leader like he appeared to be, very badly. Instead we have Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. Such a shame.

My daughter was telling me what she knew about MLK day, so I got to explain that we are going to try to be a family that doesn't judge people on the color of their skin.
It still makes me want to cry when I meet so many people that still do.

even if I look and act really crazy.

God what a great man. I always wonder how the world would have been different had he lived and been able to spread his influence.

Do you cry twice as much with only one eye open?

I've often wondered the same thing, gimme. It pains me to think what we lost in RFK's life being taken. The thought is like a blow to the gut. Those years of assassination: JFK, RFK and King were traumatic and huge losses to life in general and our potential as a nation. It's pretty much been all downhill since then and it's high time we had some good, strong leaders again.

A man of grace and kindness towards ALL PEOPLE inspite of the adversities he faced during the times of the early civil rights movement. There's a wonderful memorial OF MLK in DC if anyone ever visits DC.
