Thought this was pretty good.

Poverty, political oppression, systemic corruption, lack of education, lack of critical thinking, and general hopelessness in these countries is the spark.

No offense, but based on how how the subject line was spelled, I thought this was a post from a certain AMT denizen :-D

Interesting read, though I think at least in part, some is fueled by skewed "religion" (for lack of a better word). Most reasonable and thoughtful people wouldn't damn an entire group based on the horrific actions of a relative few.

I don't know which is worse - the carnage to date, or that generally peaceful people feel persecuted, misunderstood, even hated. This applies not only to Muslims but to people of any (or no) faith.

I would say the Muslim people today are being persecuted and misunderstood. Muslims in general went unnoticed until the last 20-30 years when terriorists started acting upon their beliefs. To me it's a terrible way to live today......living in fear that one is of a particular faith and that you should live that belief in peace from persecution.

Is it similar to the when blacks had to live in fear in this country just because of their race or Jews in Germany fearing the Nazi. A way of living that I would never want on my worst enemy.
When the Ku Klux Klan burn a cross in a black family’s yard, prominent Christians aren’t required to explain how these aren’t really Christian acts. Most people already realize that the KKK doesn’t represent Christian teachings. That’s what I and other Muslims long for—the day when these terrorists praising Mohammed or Allah’s name as they debase their actual teachings are instantly recognized as thugs disguising themselves as Muslims. It’s like bank robbers wearing masks of presidents; we don’t really think Jimmy Carter and George W. Bush hit the Bank of America during their down time.

We can’t end terrorism any more than we can end crime in general. Ironically, terrorism is actually an act against the very religion they claim to believe in. It’s an acknowledgement that the religion and its teachings aren’t enough to convince people to follow it. Any religion that requires coercion is not about the community, but about the leaders wanting power.

I liked what he said there.

I like the term "terriorists" and the image it implies: vicious little dogs with snarling teeth!

Not meaning to make fun of you though, G. It's an excellent and thought provoking article- well worth the read. Thanks for putting it up!
