He didn't look good at the espys. His speech was inspiring. This is sad news, but I'm glad he's out of that pain. RIP.

    Sad news.

This is kind of weird.....I had cancer 3 years ago and it took radiation, chemo, surgery and more chemo to get rid of it....but I got rid of it. So, I wondered what kind of cancer Stu had and how a guy who presumably had access to great care, didn't beat it.

The first four articles of his death that came up in a Google search didn't mention the type at all....and they were long articles. It wasn't until I googled Stuart Scott type of cancer that I found out it was cancer of the appendix and it affects one in a million. This is why I doubt there will ever be a "cure for cancer"....they'll figure out breast cancer because it's so widespread, well publicized and well funded. Cancer is not all treated the same and if youre unlucky enough to have a rare type, you're in even more trouble. I wish stu at least would have urged people to learn about his cancer. For whatever reason, I think he didn't do that.

RIP....I'm glad your pain is over.

The more I think about this, the sadder I get. I mean, I grew up watching this guy. He had to come around Espn around the same time or a couple years after I started listening to PJ. Who doesn't remember waking up in the morning and having Espn on watching the repeat of the 1am sports center over and over and over again. Every day. Stuart Scott, Dan Patrick, Rich Eisen, Kenny Mayne, Kieth Olbermann. Very sad.

One of the few anchors for ESPN that had any amount of integrity. May he now forever be as cool as the other side of the pillow.

I got to watch him on a local station in orlando before he went to ESPN. 1993 or so. Turned on ESPN one morning a while later & BOO-YAA!!!!.....there he was.

ESPN just did a nice tribute during Countdown. Stu had a nice life....until it wasn't.

Kenny Mayne was hugely underrated. One of my favorites.

    Bummer.

Scott and Rich Eisen were quite the team back when Sportscenter was fun to watch. Back in the day where you had to stay glued to the TV for 60 minutes to find out how your favorite team did.

In recent years I've kinda lumped Scott in with the newer guys that think they're funny, but are really horribly douchy, but seeing some old clips and hearing all the positive things people are saying about him is changing my perspective. Him, Eisen, Mayne and SVP were the logical next step after Patrick/Olberman really put a stamp on SC and that second group really helped bring it up a notch.

He'll definitely be missed and I feel horribly for his daughters. 49 is too young, but it seems like he packed a lot into those years.

Yeah, Stu wasn't trying to be anybody...he was the originator of that style....all the others are trying to be him.

Although I got tired of his schtick, I stopped watching sportscenter and Monday night countdown because of it, It's a shame for anyone to go out like that. RIP
