Yet another cop ambush: L.A..

These kinds of incidents will only continue to happen unless at least a few things happen:

    - Improved training or all police work
    - Improved living conditions in inner cities
    - A much greater open dialogue on race issues and a decrease in racism and racial tensions.

The L.A. shooting may have nothing to do with race but the others are or probably are race related. Until we acknowledge the reality of racism in America, a constructive dialogue will be difficult. A number of years ago (when I was a bigger supporter than now) Jerry Brown made a statement about how whites are a minority in the world and that people of color (who are of a majority in the world) are getting pissed and our arrogance toward them will eventually come back on us. Could this be partly what is happening now?

Oh, Biko. Beautiful piece of music and heart.

Brian, for this particular incident, I can't say (while I don't discount - and do endorse - the validity of your points) that any of those contributed to this.

Sometimes people are just pieces of shit.

Yeah, no I totally get that Hedo. When I read about this, my mind went to the big picture like- damn, there's a lot of this shit going on- what's happening here? But you're right, this incident could be about something all together different.

I'm with you on "the fuck?" side of things, B.

Much as the men and women who've served me (us) so well here, I feel a sense of protection toward them as well. I know the majority are decent people and want them kept safe. As I want any of us free from harm, from crime, from ambush and rashness.

Past 30 minutes or so, there've been sirens blaring past us - unusual despite our living between Cedars hospital and the local PD.

Just hoping people don't give in to more stupidity and getting caught up in the moment.

We can agree on Biko, TBU, even if we don't agree on several other things ;)

And now off I go to listen to Peter Gabriel Plays Live, 1982. It's been a while (not a long while, though).

We don't have to agree to still be okay with each other.

The world would be pretty bland if everyone simply agreed with everyone.

  • Peter Gabriel is awesome by the way. I tried talking my buddy into flying to Toronto to see him last year. No dice.

Awesome indeed. I've seen him several times, the most recent being in Montreal a few years back. Too bad your buddy wouldn't go with you. Always go to the concert is my motto.

And that squinty emoticon in my post is supposed to be winking, not giving you the stink-eye!

I saw Peter Gabriel last summer and it was a perfect arranged and performed gig as expected.
Everything was on the tick - usually not my thing at gigs because I love things happening on a more natural flow - but this really fits for Peter Gabriel. Great musician and great human being and very kind character. And he played Red Rain - so touching! Aanndd he sang `Here comes the flood´ in German! What a great evening, thanx for reminding me!

Crazy things are happening - hope next year will bring better behavior all over the world - if you just take a look around it´s so sad what you will see...If only the people would try to be better human beings and just think twice before acting...( not specifically meant for this sad cause )

  • I hope the Biko reference has not been lost on people here.

This situation has serious potential to spiral out of control. The ramifications are profoundly scary.

Not at all, Thirty. Gabriel's preface of it during a live show, which was the first time I'd heard the song, prompted me to read about him.

Watching the local news this morning, I more than half-expected something else to have happened, especially with an autopsy related to a recent controversial shooting released. Actually, there was a large group that protested yet again on A FUCKING FREEWAY because of it, but no shootings.
