I watched some shit going down on the news this morning.

    These are adults. Well, supposedly.

Thankfully, it IS only "some people".

    Yikes
  • My wife texted me this morning and said there was a brawl going on as she exited a store this morning at 3:00am. I really hate that she goes out all night shopping. It's dangerous. I would like to see some kind of regulation that stores who are participating in black Friday sales, can't open their doors until 6:00am Friday morning. I'm not a fan of government telling people what that can and can't do, I just think it's a safety issue.

Demand. If people didn't go they would not be open.

Early Friday is bad but Thanksgiving?

We talk family values but we have none. All stores should be closed on major holidays, close at noon Saturday and closed on Sunday. This will reduce crime and make our society a nicer place.

Not sure if you are being sarcastic or not....

Closed on Major holidays - sure
Close at noon on Saturday - no
    Closed on Sunday - no

Ever visit any other countries? They don't have the 24hr business mentality that we have and they get along fine. I live near Amish country where tourists come to spend their money on fine handmade products and cheapo trinkets, they close early and don't open on Sundays and they do just fine.

I wouldn't say that we have a 24hr business mentality. To close everything on Sunday would not work as it would be very imposing on all of us. I for one prefer to go grocery shopping on Sunday morning when the majority of people are at church. It is very relaxing.

We sure do have that mentality, it takes getting to a more relaxed place to fully notice it. "Very imposing" ?? Only because we also have a "work work work till you die" mentality as well, which leaves us little time for anything else. It's a shocking thought, but did you know in some places the 40 hour work week still exists lol

I see what you mean about the 24hr mentality, for some.
"Very imposing"?? - Yes. I do not want a blanket thought of someone imposing what I can and can not do on the weekend. It would feel like a curfew.

Yeah I wouldn't want a law forbidding it, just would like our society to be a little more relaxed. I like the Spanish/Italian way, shorter hours in general, closed midday for siesta, closed on a weekday for time off, and short hours on the weekend, of course depending on the business type. They work on a completely different type of schedule over there, early and late with no middle...I liked it a lot.

For Sure. Have been to a few places that have that way of life. Siestas are awesome - drink cold beer on an air conditioned patio all afternoon to escape the hot sun. Then when stores open back up you can go shopping with a smile on your face. Yep, early and late with no middle works.
But to close all day on Sunday is just dumb.

This is why we need to allow people to carry guns into stores. These fighting-over-goods incidents would be settled soooooooooo much more quickly!

"I saw that toaster oven first!"
"Oh yeah? Tough shit motherfucker!" BLAM!!

Not being sarcastic. Yes you'd be a bit inconvenienced but payback is huge.

As gambs pointed out how many western countries do it and much better quality of life.

We are used to. 24 hour society but doesn't need to be this way.

  • I don't mind that stores are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. But these stores that are supposed to be 24/7 operations close for a few on hours on thanksgiving just to create Buzz about the black Friday sales (wal Mart is a perfect example).

I am not in favor if government telling stores how to operate. I would just like to see the stores think about public safety instead of the bottom line. I know that's never going to happen, but one can hope.

As far as forcing stores to close on Sundays, I'm not at all in favor of that. I'm also opposed to states that don't allow Sunday alcohol sales. That's just a law influenced by the religious nuts. I should be able to buy whatever I want on any day of the week..

    Santa arrested...
I read that each Wal-Mart employee in the US receives $4,400 of government "entitlements".

I love Mitch Hedberg's thing about this.... "I walked past a dry cleaning place at 3 in the morning, and the sign read, sorry, we're closed. Dude, you don't have to be sorry. It's 3am, and you're a dry cleaner's. It would be ridiculous of me to expect you to be open"
