Oh the old media, always looking for those important headlines in times of danger. If you see someone pointing with their thumb in the upright position, shoot first, ask questions later. Better safe than sorry, right! :-D
“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man [or woman] who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”
Variously credited to Mark Twain or Edward Abbey.

It makes you wonder, does that officer even believe what he's saying, or is he deliberately stirring up crap? Both options are frightening.

It's intentional retaliation from the police union.

Police officers came to community activist Al Flowers’ home around midnight to arrest his teenage daughter for a home-monitoring violation, and he scuffled with them after asking to see a warrant. Flowers claims the officers beat him and dragged him outside without cause. The police report says Flowers assaulted one of the officers, which he denies.

Flowers had injuries to his scalp, face and ribs, and was treated at a hospital before being taken to jail. He was released from custody without being charged, pending the outcome of the investigation. Flowers’ daughter turned herself in and was released after an investigation showed she did not violate her home monitoring orders.

They're upset at the mayor for seeking outside independent investigation for the arrest of Al Flowers. The cops wanted an internal investigation. You know: cops investigating cops, the Blue Code of Silence and whatnot.

Fortunately the media is taking KSTP to task on this. Unfortunately, the cops won't be.

Frank Serpico just wrote an incredibly interesting (and relevant) editorial for Politico about how The Police Are Still Out of Control

Thanks JC for posting this link; the additional details were helpful. If indeed the city council members initially publicized the plan for body cameras without the involvement of the police, then that was clumsily done, but this apparent vendetta against the mayor makes the whole police department appear unprofessional. I hope they're not fooling any of the citizens.

And Jason P, I'd like to comment intelligently on your post but I have not the slightest clue what you said.

Police were involved. The chief of police agreed to the pilot program. In fact the chief was with the mayor and the "gang banger" when the photo was taken.

Yes; I was referring to the original meeting mentioned in the article which seems to have spurred this vendetta, not the events of the day of the photo. Sorry if I wasn't clear.
