Your goddamn right! I strongly encourage everyone to give Sturgill a listen. "Metamodern Sounds.." and his first album "High Top Mountain" are first class. I got tickets to see him in December in Minneapolis. Can't wait.

Album on the Year IMHO. Similar to BrainOfJHA, I'm not a huge fan of country music, but there's something about Sturgill's music that hits me deep...perhaps it's the raw, uncompromised honesty he conveys, not unlike eV. Stoked to be seeing him for the first time live this coming Sunday at his sold out show in Birmingham.

Check out his first album too. It's a bit more traditional than MMSICM but still dang good.
  • saw him open for ZBB
    good stuff

Saw Sturgill play Birmingham last night and it was the bee's knees. The opener, Cris Jacobs, put on quite a show as well and set a great tone for the night. Cris used a cigar box guitar as a lap steel for a handful of songs and scorched on bluesy numbers like a cover of Samson and Delilah. Sturgill then proceeded to give the sold out crowd what they came to see. He didn't seem fully comfortably soloing on his acoustic guitar, playing one solo w/ his back to the crowd and another to the rear of the stage in the shadows, but is a more than capable player. His lead guitarist, on the other hand, was a stone-faced samurai who proceeded to shred solo after solo. As a band, they were super tight and played like seasoned vets. Was stoked to see him at a small venue and have to think that this'll probably be the last time to see him in that intimate of a venue before he blows up even more. What a voice, man, what a voice ^:)^
  • I like the album, and own the vinyl. My only complaint is that it seems to gain nothing from the format.

  • The vinyl sound is noisy and flat, as if it were mastered from the CD and not pressed very well.

Saw him Friday and loved it. Glad I got to see him in a small venue before he really blows up. Lead guitarist is from Estonia and is amazing.

Saw him 3 times last week. Great, great shows. I feel lucky to have seen him less than 2 years ago with only 10 other people at the show.

Was able to track down WRLT's password and scored 7th row tix for the 10/30 show. Super stoked to see Sturgill play the Mother Church  Watch Sturgill on Fri night with one of my best friends and then Halloween w/ the fam on Sat night.....gonna be a good weekend come October :pirate:

I picked up balcony tickets for Sturgill at The Ryman for the Saturday and Sunday shows. Pretty incredible that he still gets no radio play, but can sell out 3 nights at The Ryman within' minutes. Several cities added 2nd shows too. Definitely a great grassroots success story.
