Trade Protection

I am hoping somebody could help me out with this. Myself and another 10c Member are making a trade through the forum, problem is we haven't figured out a way to make sure we're both covered should something go wrong. The posters are more valuable than stickers and shirts I've traded on here before.

Anyone have any suggestions? It's in the best interest of both parties and I'm trying to figure something out just to be fair...it just seems like the only option is to take a blind leap of faith haha

  • For the merchandise..Buy insurance from the post office and make sure you have package tracking.
For the trade with a near complete stranger...have faith. There are really good people here. I have not been ripped off yet and have actually been treated very nicely by fellow 10clubbers.
Having said that...some others here have been ripped off and it makes me sad. If it happens to me I'll be mad too.

  • Yeah, I've never been burned here either. But like I said the value of the posters is more than I've traded here. I would definitely get the insurance for my poster, just in case. I wouldn't screw anyone in an agreed upon trade. I was just curious what other people have experienced.

    Thanks for the reply

In the end, there has to be faith. I would agree with him or her to both insure your items, even then, you have to have faith that he or she will.

In the end, everyone here (for the most part) know they're nothing without their reputation. Bad traders are outted pretty quick and the fear of never being able to trade with anyone on here again keeps most ppl inline.

Nothing is ever 100 percent though.

  • True, at the end of the day the rep is all we have here. I'm sure it'll work out.

Wasn't there someone back in the day that would broker the trade... Kinda like a middle man? Both send your stuff to them, and once they get both items he sends them to their new owner?
  • DO NOT SEND THROUGH USPS. Send UPS or FEDEX. Getting insurance from the USPS can be a pain.

If it is that expensive, that is what I would do.

    Good luck!
  • Thanks for the replies and info. I'm sure it'll work out, I'll post in here that it worked out and everything is right in the world after the trade

How so? Just wondering as I've never had a problem, especially since I buy my postage directly through the USPS website where insurance is an obvious option. If you are referencing getting your money back after an insured item was lost/stolen/damaged, that's another story (or should I say nightmare).

    Yes, getting your money back.

I had a high end trade here a few months back (2 $500+ posters). We were both nervous and came here for help. People spoke up on behalf of both of us, and the fact that we were both nervous about it was soothing...

    The middle-man possibility was offered.

Is this guy a poster here and want to be identified? Maybe people have had positive experience(s)?
  • I'm not sure he wants to be identified, we exchanged numbers and are gonna get it done. In a weird way, the feeling nervous is a good thing I agree. I'm sure it'll be fine its just a first time trading an expensive poster that has me uneasy.

I've delt a wrigley cracker jack and Pitts 13 poster here on faith. No problems.
Plus some pricy vinyl as well.
    Good luck

Some great people on this forum. I have sold, bought, and traded with a lot of them. You just have to trust the people that are on here.
That being said I have only hade one problem with a member on this board. Dwhite76 ( Don white from Arizona) We did a few trades and all was good till money got involved. He sent me a damaged poster. So sent it back but never got my $200 returned. he has not signed in since March 15 and I have lost contact with him. I am not the only one that has been ripped off by this guy. I have a felling he is on the Facebook page. So this is a warning to all, don't deal with him if you see him on Facebook.
He is just one of the bad out of the thousands of good people on here.

I guess you could "buy" the items from each other on Paypal. It would cost a % of the amount for goods, but then if your items aren't sent you can use Paypal to cover yourself.

Yea, paypal is an option too I guess I didn't think of that. I'm cool with the trade we agreed on, I'm just looking forward to getting the trade completed. Shipping out today!

Hmmm... That's odd. I sent him one sticker from the first leg of last year's tour and he sent me 3 or 4 from the second leg. I was only expecting one in return. Sorry you had a bad experience but my dealings with him was positive.

Like I said, when money got involved and he had to repay me, he didn't.
couldn't get a hold of him and when I did it was the same old story. he would tell me that he was getting payed tomorrow and i'll send you the money then. but nothing.
He would tell me he hade medical bills to pay ( wont get into details). And I felt bad for the guy. It seemed he was going through a rough time.
but then find out he was hitting 3 or 4 shows if not more on a tour and buying up a shit load of merch. That's what pissed me off the most.
You can stick up for him, that's fine, he may be a friend of yours, I don't know. This is just a warning to all that might deal with him. NEVER send him money as a friend.

So am right. he is creeping around face book? ask him why he's not on the forum anymore.

With shipping, stuff can always go wrong and insurance is your only protection.

For the person, do an informal background check. Check their past posts on here, make sure you have their real facebook, personal email, phone number, etc. If they have a long history of posting on here, I that would count for a lot to me.

I'm not doubting what you posted. Sorry you got ripped off. Hopefully he makes it right with you.

Yeah there was, that Dwhite76 started it, and then he was the one who was on the bad end of some trades, so it got closed.

Also, as a rule, I never send payment as a friend (unless it's to OYR). It's worth the extra dollar or 2 for the protection to get your money back if something goes wrong.

Also, I've never had a trade go bad here, and I've done quite a bit.
Wouldn't it be funny if the world ended in 2010, with lots of fire?

  • I forgot to post, but if you ever have to deal with ToledoJutt on a trade...do so with confidence. Good dude, our deal went smooth
