Great show. Highlights for me were Rain, Fuckin Up (including Eddie's story about the debate on playing it), Given to Fly, Last Kiss (cause of the really inspirational story about one of the bridge school students) and finally the TOTD!

A ton of other great performances as well. Norah Jones and Neil doing Down by the River was damn cool. Tom Jones and Florence + the Machine put on equally stellar sets. Neil was great as always, didn't go in til after 12. Solo performance of Heart of Gold was great!

Hi fans. World's biggest idiot here. I only live a few hours from Mountain View. Shoreline is about a mile from where I grew up. And I didn't even realize PJ were playing there yesterday. See the piece of paper taped to my back? What does it say? KICK ME!

I've been enjoying reading the board for years and have been to many shows, but this is the first time I'm compelled to write.

Last night's Hunger Strike was possibly the best concert moment I've had in my 36 years. It brought me back to my 14 year-old self when I first fell in love with Pearl Jam. Such an unreal night. I hope they repeat it tonight! Can't wait for show #2!

And… I've been to many Bridge School shows. This one was by far the absolute best. No contest.

I hope more of you get to go today!

Yeah super show Florence's voice reached mars last night as angelic a voice I've ever heard unreal ..
jesus greets me looks just like me ....
  • Amazing show. Yesterday really reminded of me of how grateful I am to live in the Bay Area. The drive down to the venue from Marin over the Golden Gate and along Presidio Pacific Coast was gorgeous.

The show was excellent. The kids and their caregivers were beautiful.

My 'wishlist' for PJ's set list today:

    ALL OR NONE
    WHO YOU ARE
    OFF HE GOES

However, anything they play is perfection because the show's about the kids.

Thank you Pearl Jam and Bridge Benefit for yet another magical life experience to balance out all the fucked up shit in this world! =)

Leave now, they're playing again tonite!

Start to finish the most consistent Bridge show I've been to. No real clunkers (except Brian Wilson's voice, and he has living legend status and plenty of great singers to carry the weight on the high stuff.)

The transition from Soundgarden > Tom Jones went better than you might imagine. He can really work a room and still sounds great.

As for PJ, after a couple of shows for the setlist geeks this week, I expected and got a set heavy on crowd pleasers. The boys were in good form and spirit. Such a treat.

I agree and I had never heard of her before yesterday.

She had the voice of an angel. The harp, piano, and guitar trio was beautiful.

Did anyone stay for Neil? I was a part of the mass exodus after the boys finished. Did they come out with Neil? Rockin' In the Free World sing-along with everyone? What'd I miss?

Best moments of the night for me: Hunger Strike (obviously), the look on the non-pj fan, woman's face in front of me when I was singing "Why Do I keep fuckin' up!!!" , [-( Florence CAN SING and the woman throwing her panties at 74-year old Tom Jones.

What does Ed's shirt say? Looks like "Soundgarden", but I know it's not.

It says 'Nudedragons' - an anagram of Soundgarden that SG have used for secret shows in the past
    “Do not postpone happiness”
    (Jeff Tweedy, Sydney 2007)

“Put yer good money on the sunrise”
    (Tim Rogers)

Thank you! I've seen the shirt a lot and could never figure it out. I'll have to look into the history.

Great day yesterday one of the better Bridge School shows that I've attended. Loved Neil coming out for "Down by the River" and jamming with Norah Jones. Soundgarden had a solid set, and while Tom Jones sounded great, I thought his set was a bit slow (I've seen him before and he had more energy in the past, but I get he's getting older). For all the criticism on Brian Wilson, and yeah, he wasn't always singing consistently, when you can run "God Only Knows", "Good Vibrations", "I Get Around" and "Fun, Fun, Fun" up there you don't got to apologize to me. I thought the other singers picked him up admirably, and the last 3 songs got the crowd back up and moving after the prior two acts weren't exactly danceable save "Its Not Unusual" by TJ. I enjoyed him more than I thought I would. Florence has a great voice but I wasn't all that into her set, mike seemed to have echo effect, or maybe that's just her voice.
Was expecting Small Town, Last Kiss and Daughter, but despite the predictability of the set, I was extremely happy with the performance. Rain was awesome, and was great that it didn't rain at all it was a beautiful evening despite forecasts to the contrary. When they busted out acoustic Fuckin' Up I was going crazy, that sounded awesome, then they top themselves with Hunger Strike. While I thought they might do that I kinda had given up hope after hearing F'n up. So good, and the crowd was really into it. Loved it. That was worth the whole day in and of itself.
I also loved Neil's set, both the solo stuff - Pocohontas is one of my favorite Neil acoustic tunes - and when he brought out the Nelson brothers to back him up on some songs. Lukas Nelson can pick it!
All and all a fantastic day.

  • I'm sorry, but I can't stand the way Cornell sings Hunger Strike nowadays. So fucking annoying.
