Merchandise "Line Buddies" cutting in midway through line

What is the thought about Merchandise Line buddies? I understand for GA it is cool to have one person wait in line for the "pair of GA tickets" for the second to join later (always a good idea to tell the people around you so they aren't surprised) but I have a little more of an issue with "buddies" cutting in line for Merchandise.

In St Louis people were pretty good about it (maybe a few people joined up near the end of the line when one person was dropped off and the 2nd parked) but in Detroit I saw a few people "join in" pretty close to when they got to the front.

When I was in Cincinnati, there were people showing up and meeting up with their buddies in the front of the line. They must have been saving a spot for them but they weren't there at all until that time. It happens a lot.. sometimes it's more than one person and it pisses me the fuck off. People have been waiting, not you. fuck you. Go in the back of the line!

You guys see what people are offering for the hockey jersey in lost dogs? You wonder why people hoard everything they can to feed this disease.
  • There's no question such behaviour is rude and inconsiderate; however, the way to deal with such a problem is to address the problem at the point of the problem. If you don't call the people out... then you effectively let them stomp all over you.

Back at it...please be cool & don't cut the line...I saw two dudes do it in Philly. I called them out and told them they should not cut and told all the people around them they cut the line...dudes did not care and no one else said anything...I almost started to feel like I was the uncool one for saying something???
    very interesting
I guess if the venue set up barricades or something that would help

that being said...after last nights show nothing really matters anyway & I'm planning on living my life a little more rather than waiting for cool stuff...

Crowd apathy. Happens with other things too, far more serious than merch lines.

I don't mind when people might let in one friend, but that's it. People budding in line is a pet peeve of mine and I don't mind calling people out. I did it in ft. Lauderdale , got a dirty look but pretty much told the guy to hit the trail which he did. In miami some guy walked right up to the barrier while people were purchasing from the truck for them to get him soemthing, which some person did. I started to badger him and ask him if there was anything else he would like someone to purchase for him. By this time I was standing in the heat for 2 hrs, so really wasn't in the mood. If my wife wasn't there to calm me down...it might have escalated. Some people just don't understand order and like I said its a pet peeve of mine. Just be respectful of others and put the shoe on the other foot, if you wouldn't like it if someone else would do it to you, why would you do it. Just my 2 cents, gets my blood boiling when I think about it

I bet a majority of the time no one says anything, so why not right?

Witnessed this for the first time yesterday in the Philly line.

I got there at 945, was lets say 30-40 people deep. About a half hour later, a lady joined the guy in front of me. No biggie.

Then, every half hour, someone else joined him in line. By 1230, there was now 6 of them. None of them were Pearl Jam fans, and they even asked me to name a few songs to see if they knew any, and I over heard them say they were getting paid by the hour to wait. I have no problem with this as long as its a one for one kinda deal. If you want to pay someone to wait and get you your 2 posters and stickers, cool, no worries.

When the truck opened up, a man and woman got in line with them (8 total now) and the woman handed each of them $100 to buy her stuff. I watched this couple put 16 posters into their car, along with 3 stickers and buttons for each person.

    Couldn't believe it.

This is my take on it. I was speaking to the people I was next to in line last night and we were in agreement that most people assume that if your plus one isn't there they will be joining you later on.

If it's multiple people who jump in the middle of the line then there is an issue and I think it's fine if you want to politely speak your mind. Especially if you've been in line for a good amount of time already.

To me there should be a time limit that you can hold a spot for someone. Say 30 minutes. Anything after that if you want some quality buddy time you can go to the back of the line and hang out. There is a reason you can buy two posters and three stickers/pins/shirts (for your friends who can't be there). It isn't fair to the people who don't have friends coming to the line later. I think it is stupid that you can be 100th in line with a clear shot at posters/stickers and then 50 people can show up taking 100 posters and 150 stickers/pins/shirts potentially.

If you let them continue to cut in line they will continue to do it, if you call them out, it may make them think twice about doing it again.

Or not. People only care about themselves and since there is no legislation or authority, I am afraid they won't care one bit. Sad sad sad

If the band or whoever would just make a shit load of posters etc this sound not happen. The real fans are getting tired of waiting in line every show 3+ hours for a poster to hang on their wall only to miss out because 200 flippers were in line ahead or cut in line. It's freakn stupid.

If they make more merch than sold at shows The xtra merch will eventually sell through tenclub online to make a profit.

I see posters, hats stickers on ebay going for a lot more than original purchase price, but what sellers don't get is that after fees of eBay, PayPal and shipping costs they only profit slightly more than what they originally paid.

For instance I'm guilty of buying a 2016 hat for $60 shipped. I think the hats are $30 and they probably were in line for hours. Ebay 10% PayPal 3% and shipping roughly $5-8 that's about $12. 60-12 is 42 so they made about $12 standing in line for 2 hours. Have at it.

There's a clean and apparently simple solution to budding in any line ..... Don't do it. Be mindful and respectful of the other people already in line. There is no valid excuse for anyone ever budding in line. If it's a must that you and your budding buddy be him or her: an acquaintance, girlfriend/boyfriend, spouse, or family member..... The two of you should and can be together at the back of the line. What's great about this choice and solution is that everyone is with who they want to be with, and the common sense rationale of 'lining up' etiquette was preserved :) ..... Enjoy the music everyone.... and be polite
