Avocado Vs. Is This It
This might seem like random albums to compare, but "Is This It" has been playing in my car non-stop this week. So the other day i take it out and put in "Avocado" (i don't like calling it that, but it seems like it would be less confusing than saying pearl jam), and let's just say i quickly went back to The Strokes. I think "Is This It" blows "Avocado" out of the water......thoughts?

I assume I'll get a lot of this since it is a pearl jam board, but i just think "Is This It" is a classic rock album of this decade and "Avocado" is not
it's hard to compare something my fav band puts out compared to another band i like but not as much.
so i would say they equal... oh, and avo is probably my least favourite pj album.

I can't believe so many people are down on Avocado.

What made you pick a seven year old album to compare to Avocado. It would probably be better to pick an album from 2006 to compare as the music scene (in my opinion) in 2001 was a hell of a lot better than 2006.
I'll just assume you're fucking joking.

What made me pick these albums to compare is what i said in my original post, i was listening to "is this it" in car a ton last week then i switched to "avocado" because it was also in the car and i thought to myself "wow this album is vastly inferior to the strokes album i was just playing"
and to the person who said it is pointless to discuss music because it is all subjective.....ummm isn't that all we do on this board? discuss music
and no not really....there isn't a ton of diversity between pearl jam and the strokes, they are both pretty straight forward rock bands it's not like i compared Hank Williams to Prodigy or something
this makes me think of when people say that they have really diverse taste in music and then just list a bunch of rock bands "yeah i'm into a lot of different stuff I like STP and Thursday! pretty crazy eh?"
i was trying to be interesting i was trying to talk about something that actually occured.....listened to 2 rock albums on the same day, found one to be vastly superior..
even over riot act, very surprising

Well it's a matter of opinion, you're entitled to it. I will say, however, that "Pearl jam" is far more diverse from start to finish. "Is this it" is an awesome record but most songs sound the same and are quite repetitive.
One thing IS for certain though, no debating this one

Well, this is a Pearl Jam message board...so guess what I think?
Actually, I love Avocado, so I think it is ridiculously better than "Is the It"...though I do like that album a lot as well.
haha i knew someone was gonna say that
