Merchandise lines - what can be done?.

Is there anything that can be done to make the lines go any quicker so the wait doesn't have to be 2+hours? I know one issue is that you can't see all the merchandise until you get fairly close. At St Louis the employees there moved like the walking dead and were obviously overwhelmed. I was even going to attempt to create a 'form' that people can fill out while in line to hand to Merch employee 'shirt #x with size circled'. Moline might be especially rough since employees are not likely used to such insane lines.

Let 10C members pre-order city specific items before they go to print, like when tickets are sold.

Do away with the truck. Yes, it is nice to be able to get your gear and take it back to your car or to the hotel. But when the merch was only on the inside only the people who were going to show were able to buy the merch. I don't recall hearing about a show prior to having the merch truck where so many people seemed to be struggling to get the things they wanted. I could be wrong. Seems like have of the stuff being sold these days is going to people who are not even going to the show but just buying it to re sell it.

Cash only or at least a cash only queue & a separate credit card queue!
  • Have a separate line for ppl buying apparel or at least know what size you need before you get up to the front.
  • I highly doubt the number of people buying merch and not going to the concert is significant

I like being able to buy then run my stuff back to my car or hotel so I don't have to hold during the show. I think the credit card and cash lines are a good idea.

Have two trailers and increase the number of employees in each. Have ATM machines available and only do cash at the trailers. Have a clothes rack near the truck with blank shirts that allow you to find the "right size." Seriously does anyone know what there actual size is? Maybe have only a certain queue that allows you to try on clothing. Have restrooms, food and drink near by.

Have a completely different poster line, price of poster is $40, previously rolled, as is, with 1 sticker all ready in a tube. EXACT change only.

More employees at the merch booths and more booths. And that 'trying on the sizes' station is a good idea too. Make your decision before getting in line.

I was in the St. Louis line for 3 hours. The problem is not cash or credit cards. It's the people! I paid with a credit card and I was fast because I knew exactly what I wanted.

The problem is that when people get to the front of the line, they want to take their sweet ass time and are indecisive of what they want. It was pissing me off. I saw someone for 10-15 minutes deciding on what they wanted.

How the hell do you not know what you want once you get to the front? For 20+ minutes I was 15-20 feet away from the truck and could see everything and knew what I wanted once I got there.

Something's seriously WRONG with that picture. There woulda been smoke comin' outta my ears if I was behind them. I unfortunately lack patience with stuff like that.

  • The fans in the line is a big reason why. There is no sense of urgency what so ever. Everyone is bullshitting with one another. I get it, it's the day of the show and your'e excited and want to talk about it, but not paying attention until you get right up to the stand fucks up everyone's day. I spent 7 hours in line at Wrigley and there were at least two trucks outside the park.

Jerk move for sure, but they shouldn't even be allowed to do it. What, the workers just stand there staring at them while they hum and hah for 10 minutes??? The staff should make them step aside while deciding and keep serving the people behind them. That's how it would work in every single other business in the world.

  • i gotta say... at the few (6+) merch trailer/tents i've been at, i haven't seen the horrors illustrated here...

"i was next and the person in front of me bought 4..."

"i watched people take 10 minutes trying on shirts..."

"they got 10 venue specific shirts..."

at what point do people realize, you gotta be there early? and if you can't be there early, find someone who can! am i completely oblivious to these audacious sightings posted here? wake up fans who want shit...

Well, tonight in Detroit the back door of the merch truck opened up and a guy started selling stickers and posters while people were waiting in line for hours out front.Security came up and shut the door. But not before some guys bought about 20-30 stickers and a few posters. And on it goes.

In Detroit tonight there were many people just casually walking up to the side of the Merc truck and then jumping in line... They didn't try to watch this until like 5pm when they set up barriers around the truck.

After waiting in line for three hours at the Detroit show I can agree this is 100% the problem. Everyone takes their sweet as time when they get to the front. Not sure how you can be in eyes view of what's available for an hour and then still have no clue what you want to buy when you're at the front, but I saw atleast 2 people in front of me humming and hawing trying to decide what to buy with the staff member watching on. The only way to fix this is more merch booths outside.

  • A couple of issues with the Detroit merch fiasco: the tuck opened very very late, too long after the announced time; people were too indecisive when they got up to the front; sooooo many declined credit cards and then scrambling to figure out how much cash was on them and what they weren't able to get; line cutting; rude people in line; overwhelmed merch employees (all 4 of them). We need a better system. Besides all this, one jerkoff bought 2 of the same posters because the 2nd type available was gone. He rolled one up and put it in the tube then rolled the other and held it in his hand. A while later the poster that had been gone was back in stock. That guy had apparently been hanging around and when he saw people purchase the other poster he got angry, stormed to the front of the line, cut people off and proceeded to yell at the merch employee and cursed about waiting in line earlier only to get 2 of the same poster. He then hands the employee the rolled up poster in his hand and rudely demands it exchanged for the 2nd poster. All the employee could do was comply since the jerkoff was causing a scene. That jerk then smugly walks away smiling. That just pissed me off...anyways, we def need a better system..

  • One guy who I heard several times being called "Woody" had people in line buying posters for him after buying several for himself. He proceeded to the side of the trailer and sell these posters for a redic profit in front of many of us that had been waiting for 4 hours. He had posters all over the ground. It was pathetic. He made no eye contact with anyone who was chirping him. His greed had blinders on. There needs to be a limit. There is no reason for dedicated fans who wait in line and support this band to get a poster for their show.

We were driving to Moline from Detroit. We got to Moline at around 5.30 pm. I tried to find people who were already there to get me stuff, but a limit seems to have been enforced. When we arrived at the venue, no sticker, pin or poster was to be had anymore. Before Wrigley, this has never happened to me. I don't know what is different. Are people just more rabid to buy stuff? Are folks buying shit just to flip it so that the ones who come to the show don't get anything? When did a concert start to become such a time consuming event that it needs your attention the whole fucking day?

i'm not sure what happened, but it's crazy! because of where we live, driving to tour stops is our only option. because of this, we are in town the night before, so it hasn't been as much of an issue for us. i don't remember things being this way either. man, i kinda sound like a dick when i'm posting drunk huh... if i had any moline stuff to send you, i would.

  • Plus these idiots who buy multiple posters only to put them on ebay for horrendous profits. 10C tries to enforce the rule about selling fan club seats for face value, why can't they enforce a limit at the merch booth.

No worries, I get worked up on stuff too ;) I'll just try to score a poster in the Tenclub sale. It is just odd, something has changed, it was not like this all the time. I was always able to get a poster, usually no matter when I came into the venue. Pre-Wrigley, that is.

It is just stuff, I know, I know... But I like having the poster of a show I went to. Or at least getting a shot at it.
  • I was lucky as well to get both posters. It's just not fair for those faithful who wait to get shut out.

i blame on this younger generation of instant gratification fans? who knows. although, the people i've been in line with haven't been that young... hard to say, but i agree with you that it hasn't always been this difficult.

  • It comes down to greed. The most I buy is usually 2 posters. I keep one then I try and trade for one I don't have. Buying 5-10 only to sell for a profit is pure ignorant. Don't deserve to be in 10C

The posters in Moline sold out outside about 4:40pm, when only 2 people were in front of me in line. They enforced a 2 poster limit. When I got to the front at about 4:45 there were still stickers and pins left, which is pretty late compared to some other cities.

  • We got to Detroit at 2:30. The merch line was down the side of the building and around the corner. We saw the poster online (it was hideous) and said we'll get what we want inside (stickers and the hockey sweater). We went to a local pub and had drinks and food for a few hours.

We went back to the Joe at 5:50. Doors opened at 6:30 and we were the 2nd people to get served at the merch table we went to. Why some people waited 4 hours in line is an absolute mystery to me.

I would never wait in a line for posters. I always buy posters from 10c site and have never missed one since 2006 tour. How people are paying more than cost on EBay for some of these posters is strange to me. It is like they have no history on posters.
