Dirty Frank: Whats the argument/ why wont they play it?

from last nights show in tulsa
Ed jokes that they are going to play “Dirty Frank”. Jeff plays a couple of off notes and the band laughs. Some in the audience are very excited and Ed says, “settle down my people. We aren’t going to play that. It would start a whole other argument and we haven’t argued in years.”

what's the deal.. is it gone forever?

    really, when/where did he say that? id like to scientifically use evidence to prove vedder wrong!

    Prior to playing it at the Gorge says something along the line of "how they used to write really shitty songs" and the Dirty a Frank was one of them.

    I was at the gorge show in 06 and I believe Eddie called it one of their "shitty" songs.

    so wonder who in the band is on the shitty side and who likes it..

    i guess if they didnt play it at pj20 or spectrum shows its not gonna be played.. maybe they'll lighten up. just once want to hear this..

    Some songs are just for fun and aren't meant to be played live. On the occasions they did attempt it, for fun, it sounded terrible and half-assed. I prefer for them to play songs they know.

    but live music is supposed to be fun also, not like his cardinals lead top of the 8th song was well rehearsed. they still play dont gimmie no lip after all right?

    I think Jeff is firmly on the pro Dirty Frank side and why wouldn't he be, the bass grooves on it are some of the funkiest the band has ever done. At the Gorge show, Eddie was talking about Jeff's family and supporting the band from way back right before going in to the shitty songs, Dirty Frank stuff. If I had to guess, Jeff and Stone like it and Mike and Eddie don't...Who knows where Matt falls...

    I think Boom could have fun with it...wouldn't it be awesome to see them bring this back with Boom's keys...

    It's one of my least favourite PJ songs so I am ok if they never play it again. :)

    The song was meant as a joke, so I can see why they don't play it. I mean, they don't play Olympic Platinum either. I'm sure we'll hear Dirty Frank again when they are just having a really good time and the silliness of the song fits the mood.

    I was at the 2006 Gorge show when they played it. So I am one of the lucky ones who has already crossed this one off the list. But, don't get me wrong, I am happy and grateful for any live PJ that I get.

    I can't believe he teased us with Dirty Frank and then just pulled it back like that. That was just mean :)

    I'm glad you guys clarified this though because I was wondering what the "argument" would be too.
