Awesome! Happy to see they're moving forward again with the reissues! And another tour (wow, they really seem to tour a lot - or am I imagining that? They were just here last year I thought). I haven't seen them since 1995 for no good reason, so it's about time I checked them out again, even though i've heard that Gord Downie's voice sounds bad now. :( Should have gone to more shows earlier.

Kind of weird that they say they will be performing Fully Completely in its entirety at each show though.... Pearl Jam sure has me spoiled, lol. Or maybe they just mean they'll be playing the whole thing at the first show only. It's not quite clear.... that seems more logical though.

I used to be a big fan in high school, had seen them a few times back then. Pretty happy about the reissues as long as they aren't $40 a pop like the MOV ones for Road Apples and that other one (can't remember the name right now).

I kinda think it would suck for them and the crowd to hear Fully Completely from start to finish every night. Even the first night it kinda sucks I think. Would be better if they played like 3 or 4 songs in a row off that album to open or something like that.

Enjoy the show if you go, I'm not sure if I will or not yet.

  • Excited to see The Hip for the first time. Missed them at the Orpheum all three times last year in Vancouver.

Got up front for my hometown show in Windsor and Cleveland as well......love seeing these guys in the U.S. because shows are so small (HOB).....only other band outside of PJ that I would roadtrip to extremes for to see live.....and so glad they are doing my favourite album "Fully, Completely" in its entirity.....Gord has tamed down with the theatrics but I haven't found his voice to be that bad either.....if you have never seen them live, they are a must see!!

agreed. I saw them in Philly in a small venue. Was amazing. Stood on a close balcony right next to the Canadian members of the Flyers. Was great. It was all Canadians, people from Western New York, or people from Northern New England.

Asked my wife if she wanted to go in Buffalo and she wont because that experience cant be topped.

They want $140 for good tickets!
We must be paying for the Hips extended health care in their twilight years....lol
I like the Hip but that price is ridiculous!

For $140 I could buy the vinyl, some steaks and a "pony" keg of beer.,
    I'm sure Gord will understand.

Went to see them here last night in Toronto at the NHL kickoff party. Not sure how it sounded on TV, but the band sounded fine live. The crowd was a mix of casual hockey fans and die hard Hip fans, so it might have seemed like a lot of people weren't familiar with the less recognizable material.

    This was the setlist:

    Grace, Too
    Fully Completely
    Lonely End of The Rink
    Man Machine Poem
    50 Mission Cap
    We Want To Be It
    In View
    Bobcaygeon
Heaven Is A Better Place Today
    Courage

Looks super entertaining and I'm only 3 minutes in. :) The last time I saw them in 1995 I was so high on mushrooms I don't think I was capable of fully appreciating the show... a piece of trash on the ground was probably just as entertaining as the show was, LOL!

My best photo from tonight's show (damn forum probably won't post it though... click link I guess. Irritating.). Super fun time! I had only fantastic fans around me. Great people. :) And Gordie is fucking fascinating up close. Couldn't take my eyes off that weirdo, lol.

i saw them at the beacon theater in nyc a few months back and the concert was just so fucking amazing. crowd and band was on fire. only downfall is the beacon theater has seats. i felt they coulda played a venue in nyc that's GA like terminal 5 or hammerstein ballroom. Both venues are around the same capacity as the beacon theater.
Ron: I just don't feel like going out tonight
    Sammi: Wanna just break up?

  • Saw them last night. Great.

I've said it before and I'm saying it again: one of... if not the... most underrated bands there is.

    Top shelf.

Yeah, they really are. Not in Canada, but I am always surprised that they aren't a much bigger hit outside of their own country, since they are SO amazing, and Gord is arguably one of the greatest lyricists in the industry.

  • people outside of Canada are always shocked to hear they sell out 15-20K seat venues every tour, and can't fill a bar a few hundred km's to the south. it's bizarre.

    Lyrics are unbelievable.

"Courage... it couldn't come at a worse time."

"And the big snake pit. And we danced to the edge of it. And we laugh and we laugh 'cause we ain't seen the half of it."

"I had this dream where I relished the fray
And the screaming filled my head all day
It was as though I'd been spit here
    Settled in, into the pocket
Of a lighthouse on some rocky socket
Off the coast of France, dear"

And I could just go on and on and on- so many great songs.

one of the best bands ever
  • Like anyone I knew a Dave
    Drove a Plymouth shallow grave
Said, "my girl don't just walk, she unfurls"

Seriously... their lyrics are brilliant. I get visuals like no other band.

  • One more cuz why not:

Yeah, that's awful close but that's not why
    I'm so hard done by

They played So Hard Done By at the Kamloops show. What a great song.
