The security was definitely aggressive and seemed blood thirsty. They were just looking for any reason to throw people out. I was watching the GA area from two rows off the floor. I lit up a cig and was tapped an told to put it out. Fine. No problem. I put it out right away. But from Stone's side there were a few guys that thought they were cops and ran in to help the other jerk off "guards" shake people around a little. During the encore broke I shone my iphone flashlight on one of these guys for a while until some jerk two seats down from me started giving me shit for it. I told him I was fucking with the guy because I care about the people in the pit. He says, then go down there with them. I was like, asshole, I have a reserve ticket, they won't let me down there. This guy got me into NYC combat mode for a few minutes as we jawed back and forth. After the encore break all was fine and I went back to enjoying the show as I had been all night.

And I got caught smoking a J at MSG and all the security guy did was ask me for my ticket, tore a little piece off the corner and said your out if I catch you again. I said, you got it, I'm done. THAT'S the way it's done. A stern but respectful warning.

It seems like the Scottstrade security has the same mindset as many of the MO. Cops we've been hearing about on the news. They're just wannabes and emulate the behavior of their counterpart superiors. Because when they get a guy they can't handle, they have to rely on the police.

I generally found the vibe and people of Cincinnati to be much cooler than that/those of St. Louis. I wouldn't go back to St. Louis for a visit or a show.

A biased out of towner perspective for sure. One

If you don't want to get thrown out of a show, sporting event, bar, movie, wedding, kids birthday party etc... for smoking pot, easy solution is to not smoke pot.

I walked in about 6:45 and got the rail and there was no indian style sitting. You folks are on drugs.

Unless you mean you had to sit indian style in the holding pen? Who knows. All I know is I walked in and walked right up to the rail. No complaints here.

Then you didn't enter the arena when the big group did...
we were herded like cattle & told to sit down on the floor,
once we found a place we wanted for the show!!

This is Jason from St. Louis & I would like to say I had a great time meeting all the peeps in the Merch line while we were waiting for the trailer to open! There was the dude from Latrobe, PA (sorry AB stole your beer company), the couple from Cincy area (Young Tim Curry), the girl with the Bullseye hoodie also from the Cincinnati area and the dude with the Lightning Bolt work jacket who seemed to know EVERYONE! I am really bad with names but if you see yourself in this photo of you all "cuddling to stay warm" please say hello!

Yeah, I wouldnt say someone blatantly breaking the rules (like no smoking) deserves a warning. Your warning is knowledge of the rules. Can people really not go three hours without smoking or is it just the desire to be rebellious?

Here is hoping Moline merch line will be better. The smaller venue should lead to a smaller line????? I hope...the other option should be re-entry so people don't have to carry items around and risk damage.

Not a chance. Legions of people who camp out for merch.

Our group must have shown up at just the right time. We got in the merch line at 5:30ish and got all the stuff we wanted at 6:30. Posters, beanies, shirts and stickers. There were only a couple posters left after we went through though. We each bought one. Concerning the poster, I was disappointed when I saw a pic of it online, but in person it is much cooler. There are a lot of details in the red and blue portions that don't show on a picture.

  • The St louis poster realy is better in person. It has lots of detail that can't be seen in pictures. There is lots of "shiny" art throughout the poster in the blue. Hard for cameras to see.

I agree not the best work but if you seen it in person you'd like it more. I guess Popeye was born in St.louis lol.

    I've seen it up close...
the "secret" ink detail is meh for me.
I bought it because I have to get the print from the shows I attend!!
    I still think it's BAD...
and could care less where Popeye is from!!
This one will live in my flat file,
because I really don't see spending the $$ on framing it....
And I can't imagine hanging this on the walls of my home!!!
Hoping to get a PEARL JAM poster at one of the shows this tour.

The idea that many people have mentioned and sounds great is for people to be able to order merch (or at least predetermind merch bundles) before hand and pick it up at the venue. Then have a couple of dedicated booths just for the pick up - obviously they would have to check IDs, but payment wouldn't be an issue as it's prepaid online, and there is no decision making, so the line would go quickly. No need to go ridicule early, no worries about them running out of what you bought.... and no need to pay for shipping, which is why this is better than just doing sales in the 10c shop - their shipping prices are outlandish.

Of course there would still have to be regular merch sales at the shows too (minus what was set aside for the presale purchases), but the hoarders wouldn't be hurting the people who prepaid at least.

I would think that this would be easy to pull off. The only extra work would be printing a list of names matched with items purchased, and putting together the bundles/counting out the right amount of items from said list.

I agree that the GA entry was a mess. I was among the first 10 people in line. We spoke with a couple different security dudes throughout the day and it seemed that everything would be going smoothly when the doors opened, much like in Cincinnati.. they would lead us into the venue, maybe in groups, slowly so as to remain in the same order. But once we passed the wanding area there was just this huge open space gated off before the stairs down to the concourse and this new little security guy with the beard started yelling orders at everyone to spread out and pile together, that we would all be let in at the same time. Of course, that did not sit well with anyone who had put in the time to get a good spot. It created a lot of tension among those in the GA lineup and when one girl tried to explain that we had been told the plan was different, the beard responded by threatening to throw her out. He kept saying things like, I know what I'm doing, I do this all the time.. but it was clear that he was the one fucking the whole thing up with his arrogant douchery as well as the ridiculous physical layout. PJ's own security guy showed up and that, for me, along with the first group of us sticking together, is the only reason any order was maintained (for those of us at the front anyway). At one point, the bearded prick jumped up on the rail and started to yell again and PJ's guy shouted him down. Luckily, the first 12-15 or so of us (that I'd gotten to know throughout the day) got our earned spots but I was sure that the larger group behind us was not so lucky. It was a shit show. I don't know why they didn't just repeat the same system that Cincinnati had - it worked beautifully as far as I could tell from about 75 people back.

As far as the sitting down on the floor once we got in.. that was something security outside the venue earlier in the day had told us near the front would happen and I was happy about it. In Cincinnati we stood on the floor for almost 3 hours with barely any room to move and it was rough. Maybe a lot of people in the STL line didn't know that was going to happen..? And it probably came off like another douchey order being shouted seeing that the precedent had been set at the gates. The thing I found weird was that they told us all to sit but then had us stand again after not too long which contradicted the reasoning we were given by security for the whole sitting idea in the first place.

Anyway, that's just my point of view.

No disrespect whatsoever but all I think of after reading this is
    Simon says "Stand-up. Sit-down. You're out!

It wasn't even a good poster for that matter. That fucker will sit on the Goods page for months after they put it up.

Exactly! Haha! Disappointed in the poster for my hometown show. 98' was the best they've done for STL. That one is hanging in my office : )
I think the Cardinal themed 2010 poster is a gem. But agreed about this year's...a little disappointing.

I was in 103 club and right below us the security guard was walking back and forth yelling"I can smell it,and I'm going to get it,then your gone".He would sneak up behind people, turn off his flashlight and wait to try and catch them.At the time I thought it was pretty funny but after hearing these other stories,I'm having flashbacks of the nonsense at Deluna Fest with VIP and 10c.

All that said the STL show was very good and the city was a great host.Food was great and drinks flow to very late.

At Wrigley wasn't it a two poster limit of the same print? I like that idea. Like I said the posters had all been sold when I got to looking for one (it was kinda late in all fairness), but fella next to me was saying he had a stands last 7 sold ahead of him. 45min of wasted waiting.

... But it was a killer night of music and that's what matters.

I thoroughly enjoyed St. Louis. I did see security get a bit rough with people they caught smoking but I have no idea what led up to the scuffle. Also I hadn't heard about a death in the building the night before.

    Yep...
instead of putting us in a maze-line like an amusement park ride...
similar to what they did in Cincinnati,
they had three different "holding" areas.
The people at the beginning of the line were put in the middle area,
people in the middle of the line were sent to the right...
& the folks at the back of the line were in the left holding area!!
When they started letting us out onto the floor,
they just dropped the ropes & it was a free-for-all!!
This allowed people who were at the back of the GA line,
but were able to make it to the front of their respective holding sections,
to get ahead of those who were at the beginning of the line,
but farther back in their holding area.
It really wasn't fair to the people that put in the time waiting in line all day!
    WTF
    My thoughts EXACTLY!!!
I hope my explanation makes sense,
that was the only way I could think of to describe this debacle of a line!!
    Ok
    Wait one fucking second!!!!

    Did I read that right?
They had you sit crossed legged on the floor?
    Take me piece by piece.....
Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....
  • Security: sir could you please sit crossed legged on the floor?
    Speedy: no
    Security: sit on the floor!
Speedy: ok asshole, but your gonna need a crane to get me back up. And I havent crossed my legs in 30 years. .....prick!
