The Whigs are awesome!!!

I went to see Social Distortion last week and they were OK, but their opener was outstanding IMO. The opener was The Whigs (they are originally from Athens, Georgia - of REM and B-52s fame - and have recently moved to Nashville or Memphis (I can't remember which)). They are not The Afghan Whigs - it's a different band. I'm not sure how to categorize them or describe them or who to compare them to, but they have their own website and have 4 or 5 albums out. They've been a band for 11 years and it seems they are now coming into some success. They played at the Riot Fest last weekend in Chicago. My favorite bands are PJ, Soundgarden, Mudhoney, AIC, The Cure, and now The Whigs are included in that short list. The songs on the album I bought are kinda upbeat. The singer has a great voice and the drummer is awesome. It's just a three piece - singer plays guitar, a drummer and a bass. They have a real jam session on one song. They are still "small" enough that they sell their own merch after they play and you can meet and talk with them. I talked with them after the show, and several other people came up to them and told them that they had new fans. I think they were mentioned in a Rolling Stone as an upcoming band to watch - not sure what issue. I encourage you guys to at least check them out. If you're like me, you'll be playing their music over and over again.
...And he who forgets will be destined to remember.

...I swear I never took it for granted. Just thought of it now.

what? where did you hear that? don't see anything on the union transfer page or the whigs page about playing there.

edit. That's the Afghan Whigs and Joseph Arthur, not The Whigs ;)
