I still cant believe RS gave this thing 5 stars.
The same magazine that ripped every Led Zeppelin album.

I mean come on they had to give this shit away!

Not to mention it's a total pain in the ass to get off my phone.

There I go being honest again.....

It's not terrible, but it inspires absolutely NO emotion in me. It's just there sounding kind of alright. The one absolute requirement I have for music is that it inspire some kind of emotion. So I can't give more than a 2 for this album.

I have enjoyed using my announcer voice to say "the most controversial album on the planet" over and over and over again.

    Simple pleasures. :-)

It isn't a bad album, but it just doesn't seem to have any peaks or valleys to it. For me it is like Lightning Bolt: quality you expect from PJ (or U2), but nothing pushing the envelope or really new. I still love U2, and like the album, but it doesn't sound very inspired.

Same here, haven't really listened to them after Achtung Baby simply because it hasn't been very good.

Zooropa grew on my after many years, and Pop isn't horrible. But I always say that after Achtung Baby, I like some U2 songs but not entire albums (Zooropa is close).

At the time for some reason I liked Zooropa more than AB. Now though AB is more liked than Z and Pop isn't bad either. As for the new album I really like it and each new listen the songs take shape. Love that little guitar riff in track 10 the title is too damn long, they will kick ass live with at least 5 from this album. I like the U2 songs that don't sound U2ish, I could say the same for RUSH too.

    Peace

Agree with this. U2 lost their way in terms of producing complete albums after achtung baby. They seem to focus on a few hit songs and then tack on a bunch unlistenable stuff to fill out the album

After my first 2 listens I thought this album was total shit (Just like Binaural). But the more I listen to it the more I like it. It's growing on me and these type of records usually become my favorite.

It reminds me of them going back to their roots. Has a very 80's U2 feel to me. Still not quite on that level, but it's pretty good.

I'm listening to this album again, just trying to figure out why it does nothing for me..... I think it might just be that the band lost its spirit somewhere along the way. They are playing the notes and singing the lyrics and it does sound like U2 music, and even like older U2, but it doesn't feel like the good U2... I dunno, something ineffable just seems to be missing for me.

Same thing as with PJ, some people here who say PJ didn't make a good album after Advocado, I just disagree with them. Songs of Innocence, Lightning Bolt all fine with me. Not their best albums for sure, but I still hear the bands I've always loved. Maybe I'm not that demanding, but if a band stole my heart I can't dislike their new albums. Although I have a hate for U2's All You Can't Leave Behind .

THIS I can understand. If you are a huge U2 fan then you will love it. I am a casual fan and it just did not inspire me. Lightning bolt has songs on there which inspire me and I feel emotion (especially Swallowed Whole and Yellow Moon). Cheers!
