I've been a fan since 1993, and I've learned to trust PJ and what they do. I'm thankful for all they do as a band for us fans. But damn it, when are they coming to the South? This is really starting to suck!

I agree. Unfortunately, I think they just don't like the south. I have had to travel for alomost all their shows. That is my suggestion. ACL was just announced and they aren't on the list. So all the Texas rumors look like they aren't happening. Damn.

I hope that's not the case, but you know what pisses me off? I have been a dedicated fan throughout all the ups and downs, and now that they have "comercial success" again, it seems like they have shit on us here in the South. They were happy enough to come down here before, now that the whole world loves them again it would piss me off to be forgotten about now.

Maybe it's the whole anti-Bush thing...I don't know. It sucks, trust me I know. But I just make mini-vacations around a show and travel. I know it's a pain but it might be our only hope. Hell it wasn't until the 3rd time I saw PJ that it was in my hometown area.

Well that's a pretty fun idea I guess. I just don't want to be taken advantage of. My gut tells me they will come back around, but like it or not, I'm from Texas and proud of it. So if they don't want to come "Around the Bend" so to speak, then fuck em. If it is the Bush thing, then that goes against everything they stand for doesn't it?

I honestly thought that they would play ACL, but I just checked the line-up and they are not playing...damnit guys, we're not all Bush-Loving Republicans down here. Please come and play the south!! PLEASE!!

But even if we were, why should our political or personal beliefs be held against us? I thought that's what liberalism is all about. Being open to other beliefs and ways of living and thinking. It's unfair to think you have to be a liberal to be a PJ fan.

ya know, All of PJ's band friends played here when they had new albums. The WHO (Pete is Ed's Idol for Cryin out loud), RHCP (Like them or hate them they played here). Bruce Springsteen, The Pumpkins ect. So I'm taking it as something personal. They have a personal beef with Texas it looks like. Yes, they are playing Bonaroo, FL, SC ect, but this really sucks. 5 fucking years without one Texas stop. Ed's sister lives in Houston too. Sorry just blowing off some steam in this thread. I figured bands would cater to their fans and make money playing everywhere, hence the bands mentioned above. I just can't afford to travel and see the band, I just can't, not on a $7.50 an hour job with rent and all the other survival things we have to pay for. The ACL line up is still great though so it's not a total bust for those going. It's just with the Foos, I already saw them, and you don't need to see them more than one show a tour cause they play the same set over and over.

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks these things. I didn't know his sister lives in Houston, I live in Houston too. Yeah, I'm pretty peaved. It's like when the last album came out and they shafted us down here, I was like, OK I'm sure they'll get us the next time around. But now, it's like a slap in the face. I've been loyal all these years when everybody said they sucked and were not important anymore. Even Ed on his solo tour couldn't find time to come around, I don't blame him for that so much, but to tour the East Coast AGAIN and give us the finger. C'mon just one city in Texas, Houston, Dallas, Austin, is that too much to ask?

I agree with all the complaints and try not to let it bother me. It is hard though. I just keep holding out they will be here soon. Nothing is final for the rest of the year, so there is hope. I just got back from LA from seeing Ed and it was sooooo fucking amazing. I was going out there just to see the Lakers play and the show was announced after I booked the trip...so it seemed like fate. I don't know. I would actually like if one day they played the CC here in Ft. Worth but that seems like a waaaaaaaay long shot to EVER happen.

See The Porch forum for reasons why Pearl Jam hates Texas.

I looked, I didn't see anything of value there. True Texas has it's faults, but one thing we do have and all that should really matter is we have PJ fans here. We've loved them for years now, they've played great shows here. We openly accepted them in SA in 2003 right after the incident in Denver, I was at the show, that was an emotional show. What I'm saying is we accept PJ as they are, why can't they accept us as we are?

I too was at that show and we DID accept them amid a lot of controversey at the time. And it was an amazing show. In 2000 ( the only tour I have missed since '95) they played ALL over this great state...it just doesn't make sense now. Even in '95 when they played like 10 shows, Austin was one of them. There must be something we don't know that happened somewhere.

Obviously we are just kidding and that thread is just a fun way to blow off steam.

But honestly, I was really very disappointed in today's announcement. I don't know why I had my hopes up so high but I did.

I don't know why they haven't played here in 5 years. Its crazy. 5 years!

I think the reason that we had our hopes up so high was because someone from this board got to talk to Mike McCready and asked specifically about Texas shows. Mike said they would play ACL this year. The promoters that someone emailed said they asked pearl jam but were still waiting on confirmation. I am starting to feel like the Dallas show in Sept may be dust in the wind as well. I just can't afford to travel to see the band.

Someone mentioned Jeff saying they were playing Bonaroo and obviously that got confirmed, so that's why we had such high hopes for the ACL line up, my guess is everything was set to go, and then it all fell apart for one reason or another. ACL still has some great bands playing though. Joe Bonamassa is on the list, so if you go check him out especially if you like SRV, similar blues sound.
