Rand Paul is Pearl Jam?!?!?

Didn't see a thread about this. Horrifying. And...kind of funny. Especially so in that it includes the same tired but chronic overrating of Nirvana that we hear so often.

Libertarians: Now With More Grunge!

“Let’s say Ron Paul is Nirvana,” said Kennedy, the television personality and former MTV host, by way of explaining the sort of politician who excites libertarians like herself. “Like, the coolest, most amazing thing to come along in years, and the songs are nebulous but somehow meaningful, and the lead singer kills himself to preserve the band’s legacy.

“Then Rand Paul — he’s Pearl Jam. Comes from the same place, the songs are really catchy, can really pack the stadiums, though it’s not quite Nirvana.

“Ted Cruz? He’s Stone Temple Pilots. Tries really hard to sound like Pearl Jam, never gonna sound like Nirvana. Really good voice, great staying power — but the whole is not greater than the sum of its parts.”

Jimmy do love Nirvana. Not better than PJ. Different. Both great.

Hmmm, using popular rock bands as metaphors for politicians. Doesn't say much for either, does it?

I never thought STP tried to sound like PJ. I would debate anybody, anywhere, anytime about how Pearl Jam blows Nirvana out of the water when it comes to music. I love Nirvana, but they're no Pearl Jam.

Did I miss the point of this thread?

hahaha, I think we all did, but it's interesting anyway.

I like both Pearl Jam and Nirvana and I'm definitely a bigger PJ fan but other than coming out of Washington around the same time and some of the superficial appearance stuff, I never thought of them being similar bands. And as far as I know, Kurt never climbed scaffolding and Mike never played standing on his head. :))

So anyway, what IS this thread about? Jimmy, can you get us back on track?

I won't lie, I didn't have much of a point beyond thinking it was a funny comparison. :-) But Unsung is right, there is a story linked above.
