The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Who should be in it that isn't? Who shouldn't?

There are bands that have made HUGE impacts that will never have a place in it's walls and halls.
Who do you think SHOULD be in?

Minor Threat- They started a whole movement of Straight Edge and influenced tons of bands.

The Misfits- Same as above and we wouldn't have half the bands that we have today.

Dead Kennedys- The PMRC targeted this band. Political music at it's best!

Bon Jovi- They have been around forever with the same members, still tour and still sell out shows, made a bunch of albums. You may not care for their music but that should mean something.

Iron Maiden- I don't even have to explain this…

Motley Crue- Started a movement and wrote some good music. It's a shame that GnR are in before them…

The Bad Brains- A black, Afro American hardcore band? Influenced countless other bands? Speed metal founders!

Judas Priest- Shouldn't have to explain them either.

Bill Withers- Some amazing music has came from this man.

I'm sure there are others that I can't think of off the top of my head.

There is a band that I think shouldn't be in there and that's the Sex Pistols. They had only one (1), that's ONE, studio album. Only one. For some reason this band is in. I just don't understand that.

Everything is subject to debate and ridicule. I'm curious to what others think or even care?

Thanks

TNG

Sex Pistols are in it because that one album constantly makes everyone's list of influential albums ever released.

Personally, it is one album that I play once in awhile and think to myself "Damn, what a great album!"

The same could be said for Minor Threat and the Bad Brains, very influential. Never even a whisper of these bands.

I just think that the hype around Vicious being a shitshow is why they were so popular. I listened to the album years ago and wasn't impressed. Maybe I'll give it another try.

    Fugazi

You have to have Minor Threat before Fugazi.

    Fugazi is a great band.

Yeah I know the time line. I'm from the area and grew up in that scene. Love them both but fugazi has been more influential or at least credited more often. Lots of big bands and even people I have met around the country bring up fugazi or know who they are. Minor threat doesn't seem to be mentioned as much even though they did begin so much. I get what your saying and I agree with all of your picks as well. The DC scene has been IMO one of the most important. The "underground" influences have been many and far reaching. I don't disagree with you at all just putting out what I have observed. I would love to see them get the credit they deserve.

Sid Vicious was a talentless hack. Hell, he never even played on Never Mind the Bollocks. It was original bassist Glen Matlock (who got the boot from the band because he was TOO talented.)

Word got out about Dischord and MacKaye. That's for sure.
Very cool to have been there and seen that. You have any early Dischord records? I've been looking for Flex your head.

I've always thought this but am still going to see "why" all the love?!?

  • Unfortunately not. All I had back then were cassettes we recorded from each other and I have no idea what happened to those.

Why wasn't Neil Young included with CSN? He could of joined Clapton as the only 3-timer. And what of Crazy Horse? Should they get the same treatment as the E-Street Band?

I'd put Joy Division in before them. Even the Smiths before them too, though I dislike their music i understand their influence.

The Cure should be in though. I agree.
  • Willie Nelson is not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. WTF!?!? I understand that he is not a "rock" musician but the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has become more of a music hall of fame. If Run DMC or Randy Newman can be in, then a true country musician deserves to be in. If not Willie Nelson then maybe Merle Haggard, although I feel that Willie is more deserving.

On a different note, Soundgarden. I'm not sure that they deserve to be in right now, but I think that they should be inducted within 3 years of Pearl Jam being inducted. I am also assuming that PJ is going to be inducted on their first or second year of eligibility (I believe that they are eligible starting in 2016).

Minutemen. Every time I hear Doubles Nickels on the Dime, especially side four, I know I've just heard one the best record ever made.

    Nice! I forgot about them.
That album name was derived from them driving 55mph during touring.

Some day I'd like to see RRHOF put up an exhibit for The Replacements next to the janitor's closet which would include one of Bob's dresses, Tommy's bass (which was as long as he was tall when he started up with the 'Mats), an example of Chris's superb painting and a broom for Paul. I would make the trek to Cleveland to see that!
