Just heard from a very reliable source that Ed will be playing a "very small show" during SXSW in Austin next week. It is not advertised at this point, meaning it may be limited beyond pass holders to just special invitees. The venue is at the pool deck on the top of the AMLI Condos garage. I'll post a date/time when I have it confirmed but with "Body of War" doing its regional premiere in town that week along with Liam Finn all over the place, it sounds very credible to me.

There is also a second "Body of War" music showcase next Thursday that seems like a likely stop: http://2008.sxsw.com/music/showcases/band/71922.html but I have no confirmation on that.

I don't know if Ed is playing... But my childhood friend is. Check out the band So Many Dynamos. They are playing 4 shows down there at SXSW. There new album was produced by the great Chris Walla from Death Cab for Cutie.

Thursday at Stubbs seems like a good bet (if he's here at all). I'll definitely be there, even if he's not I'm sure it'll be a good couple of hours.

Isn't Ben Harper and some others playing a Body Of War show at SXSW, I saw an article on Billboard about it and thought Ed may show up. Not got time to look for it now but think it was last week. Suprised no one's mentioned it on here.

Okay I've found the time and I shoulda read the post properly as it's also mentioned above. Seems pretty plausible to me this could happen

Ben Harper, Tom Morello and Serj Tankian will perform at a South by Southwest showcase for the documentary and soundtrack "Body of War," inspired by a U.S. soldier paralyzed while serving in Iraq.

The performance is set for March 13 at Stubbs BBQ in Austin, Texas, and will also feature Kimya Dawson, American Bang, Brendan James, RX Bandits and SPECIAL GUESTS to be announced (Ed anyone?!!!!).

For what it is worth, I have also heard the rumor that Ed is the "special guest". I can't make it though.

I hate to admit that as long as I have lived in Austin (17 years) I have never attended SXSW. If I just show up at Stubbs Thursday night, can I pay to get it or is it badges and wristbands only??

If you show up really early, you have a chance. But bottom line is yes, they take cover at the door, but everyone else (badges/wristbands) has priority. If you get there around four or five, you probably have a chance. Hell, I have a wristband and I'll be there that early, just to be safe. Every year, though, I've had a friend who didn't have a wristband get into one of the big Stubbs shows. Look at it this way, badge people think they're guarunteed so they never show up that early. And once you're in, it's not like they're going to kick you out and replace you with a badge guy. So good luck.

Ok. So I picked up a couple of wristbands this weekend from craigslist. So do I just snap it on and go or do I have to take it somewhere at SXSW and then have them put it on? The reason I ask is because of the security device that is built in. I have no idea on how that is supposed to work.

On craigslist people are talking about $100 transfer fees. Anyone know about these? Thanks.

This appears to be a bit late, but I would not buy wristbands off of craigslist, ebay etc. They are non-transferable and are put on your wrist when you pick them up to prevent scalping. Unless there's some batch of wristbands I don't know about, I thought they were all sold like this and therefore not able to be resold.

Looks like there are several floating around out there. I don't know where they came from but they are brand new and have never been snapped together. What is the security thing under the label? How does that work? Can't I just snap it on like everyone else and go? How would they know that I got mine from Craigslist? Does it matter which wrist it goes on by the way?

Well, if you've already got yours in hand I guess you're in the clear, I don't know how they got one without having to put it on, but good for you.

The chip inside is just to prove it's an authentic wristband, nothing more. The bigger venues will have little machines that will scan the wristband when you go in. So I guess the only thing you have to worry about is if it is a counterfeit, though I don't know why they'd take the time to put in a bogus chip. I think you're good to go.

There's never been a certain wrist you had to put it on in the past, but this is the first year they put it on you when you pick it up, and I haven't picked mine up yet. I can't imagine they'd care which wrist it was on, though.

It's pretty funny the ones on Cragslist who clearly are selling the non-transferable ones, they say things like "Will take $200 from someone who looks like me." I don't know anyone who'd pay that much for something that uncertain.

Good luck getting in to Thursday's show, and good luck to everyone that a certain someone shows up! But if it ends up being Springsteen, I don't think I'll be that let down at all.

Anyone heard any updates to the Eddie at Stubb's rumor? I got a wristband; now I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Nothing new that I have heard. Anyone else?? Still hoping for Thursday night at Stubbs. Trying to figure out who to see tonight. I've never been before so I don't know with only a wristband if I should try to move around or just get in early to a place and stay there. REM is tonight, so is The Black Keys.

Rumor Update: Sad to say that 101x is reporting that EV will not be at Stubbs this evening. They were all told that he was coming and to keep it quiet but I guess it didn't work out. I hope they are wrong.

    Update...in line now.
Tom Morello and Thomas Young were on the radio about a hour ago said that EV was planning to come but has "some things he going through now and couldn't make it.". Hope all is well.

Should be a great show regardless.

BTW...sxsw volunteer says that EV is an "egotistical toolbox" and cancelled b/c too many people found out he was coming. Toolbox-who says that? Jeez, what an a-hole.

So yeah, looks like EV was the special guest but didn't make it. Which sucks even worse cause there was no alternate special guest. However it was still pretty awesome. Plus, it seemed like Thomas Young (the soldier it was for) was having a blast. Have to admit I got a little teary-eyed a couple of times. And Tom Morello gave us a badass acoustic version of Guerilla Radio. Man, that guy can't sing for shit, but he can play some damned guitar. So it was still worth it to go.

The musicians were celebrating the release of "Body of War," the new documentary about paralyzed Iraq war veteran Tomas Young, who also worked with Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder to curate the film's soundtrack. Vedder was caring for an ailing relative and unable to make yesterday's premiere of the film and concert, but the others filled in admirably.

I hope everything is okay with Eddie's family.
