    I don't think he should change the name. They will still sell out every home game. Does Atlanta have the same pressure? Or Chicago? Or Kansas City?

    Side note- I hate the NFC east. All of them. I wish they all would be 0-10-6 every year.

    Washington has this problem because their name is without a doubt racist. Not sure there is another team with an equivalently inappropriate name in major team sports. Chiefs is not really different than Senators or Generals. Blackhawks can be perceived as being a tribute. Braves gets trickier, but I think the same case can be made. Indians is problematic and is probably the second most offensive, but I don't see it as a slur the way I do Redskins.

    Which is not to say they could not all be changed.

    Great idea, Gern. I was also a bit surprised to see an issue that I side with Simmons on but I'm totally with this and very glad to see him call for an end to the racial slur. Kudos, Gene!

    This is so stupid.
    Saw a bit this morning on the news where a bunch of Native Americans were saying that they have no problem at all with the team's name, and in fact it is kind of a source of pride for Native American Redskins fans. So this is basically just white people trying to decide what it and isn't offensive when in fact they haven't got a clue? Or is there a big group of Natives who are all up in arms about the team name?

    As someone who lives near the DC area, I see people in Washington football gear on a daily basis. It is a patently offensive name. Think, Yellowskins or Brownskins.
