surprised there wasn't a Slipknot thread (I looked). First new song in six years called "Negative One"

Several years ago I did a lot of VHS taping of music off late night shows and one night I caught a snippet of this wild band whose name I didn't catch. Finally, a former forum member here took the clues I threw out and told me it might be Slipknot. I did a little checking around YouTube and, sure enough, it was Slipknot! They're not for everybody but I thought they were very cool. That particular performance is out there somewhere but I can't seem to find it now. I'll try again another time.

VHS, what's that? :)) I first heard Wait and Bleed around '99 and dug it a lot (was into that kind of music back then). Saw them in 2000 and they were pretty good live. Only thing i remember about the show was the singer asked everyone to get down on the ground during one song and have everyone come up at the same time. I thought that was kinda cool. I have their first three albums, don't listen to them as much though.

One of these days I need to get a hold of a VHS to digital converter. I've get tons of music from late night shows from the 80's to early 00's that would be cool to share. I'll have to look into that. I'd want to be able to edit them though because there are plenty of duds. A lot of it is easy to find on YouTube but I have some fairly obscure stuff as well.

Their drummer (old drummer), Joey something is really really good. I saw them live once in highschool and couldn't get past the 6-8 additional people on stage with them that seemed to be doing nothing but dancing around with baseball bats.

I dig Corey Taylor.Very Talented song writer. He has great stage presence with both SKand Stone Sour. His song with Dave Grohl on Sound City is awesome.
I saw Stone Sour 2x last year and they rip your face off with straight fforward ass kicking hard rock.I am looking forward to catching SlipKnot when they tour again.

As a long time fan, I would put the new album right up there with their best stuff. Front to back great album! Neo Forte, Orphan, Red Flag, Solway Firth, and Critical Darling are the perfect heaviness of the earlier albums. There is also some great experimental songs Spiders, Unsainted, and Birth of the Cruel!

I really liked what little I've heard. Corey sounded awesome and the band was mixing that killer soft to heavy punch well. Vol. 3 is the last one I liked a lot too and I think this sounds superior so far.
    It's a hopeless situation...

Did he leave or was he let go? Very weird indeed.
  • Sounds like he was let go, but the whole deleting-the-post thing is odd.  I guess I haven't been paying close attention as I didn't know this happened with Mick Jones in June, too.

I think they deleted the post about Craig Jones shortly after posting too.

Jay wasn't part of the classic lineup so he'd probably be one of the easier people to replace. Kickarse drummer who nailed Joey's stuff but have felt his own stuff was a bit samey (especially on .5).

Having said that The Negative One is an absolute stomper and his work on the bridge there is brilliant.

Only five members left from said classic lineup. Corey, Clown, Sid, Mick and Jim. Given they're off contract after The End, So Far (which didn't grab me at all) it'll be interesting to see what they do next but I wouldn't be surprised if they don't end up adding to their discography.

  • I had no idea that was Max Weinberg's kid playing drums for Slipknot. This satire website The Hard Times hasn't been on my radar long, but it's pretty friggn' funny.

Jay Weinberg Booted From Slipknot After Lying About Ability to Hook Up Band with Springsteen Tickets

SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Slipknot announced they parted ways with drummer Jay Weinberg after it was revealed that he exaggerated his ability to use his father’s connections to procure Springsteen tickets, the band’s reps confirmed.

“I didn’t think this lie would come back to bite me on the ass, but after almost ten years in the band they were bound to find out that I can’t actually score Bruce tickets whenever I see fit, let alone nine of them. I just told them I had connections when I was auditioning as a ‘perk’ of letting me in! In reality, most of the time I went to a show I was just my dad’s plus one,” said Weinberg. “But the guys just kept nagging me every time Bruce and the band would go on tour, and I could only blame Ticketmaster for so long before they discovered my ruse.”

Lead singer Corey Taylor said the decision to kick Weinberg out of the band was swift and unanimous.

“It’s one thing to lie, but it’s another thing to string me along thinking that I’m eventually going to see Bruce play ‘Spirit in the Night’ live when in fact the only times he ever hung out with Bruce was at his goddam horse ranch,” said Taylor. “I always thought ‘Iowa’ and ‘Nebraska’ were companion albums, and the band pitched having the E Street Band to play KnotFest with us on six different occasions, but Jay would always come back with some excuse about Bruce needing a break from touring which we all know is bullshit. That dude is a machine. So yeah, he’s leaving the band due to creative differences in that he needs to be more creative about having actual connections.”.......
