Do any of you know about ways of getting cheap flights from the UK to US? What is a ballpark cost for such a flight? Any tips or tricks?

    There's quite a lot of variance depending on where in the US you want to go. My best tip is to book as early as you can.

    Thanks, facepollution. Here's the scenario- A friend of mine flew to the UK on frequent flyer miles through British Airways. He experienced all sorts of delays with his visa, and now that he either has it or has been assured to get it soon, British Airways won't let him fly back on his points for another month- we're in prime vacation season. His goal is to get to NYC, but it's pretty easy to pick domestic flights up cheaply. Right now the challenge is crossing the Atlantic.

    Yeah I think you will struggle to get a 'cheap' flight for the next month or so - I'm heading out to the states right at the very end of August, we chose then because that's when the flight prices dropped.

    The cheapest I've just found on Expedia was £586 from Manchester to New York stopping at Dublin, or £427 direct from Dublin if your friend wanted to make his own way there (might be cheaper).

    I flew from London to NYC via Dublin on Aer Lingus for about $600USD last week but I'd booked the tickets back in like March if not earlier.

    I do recall flights out of Milan being cheaper.
