Strangest Tribe

Seems appropriate, so what do you make of the lyrics.

It's five below in evidence.
The winded eves and sideways snow.
His eminence has yet to show.

Follow the ageless tide.
Follow the angled light.
Follow the strangest tribe.
I... I... I...

It's 6:00 AM. You're waiting for...
You've had your feast. You're wanting more.

Follow the wayward mile.
Follow the distant high.
Follow the strangest tribe.
I... I... I...

Follow the ancient stripe.
Follow the angel's try.
Follow the strangest tribe.
I... I... I...

  • one of the songs I have wondered about -- love this tune but no clue what he is writing about

Love this song. The lyrics and music combined are so beautiful. I think of someone trying to find meaning in life beyond everyday existence. To do that they want to think past basic needs/ wants, they stay up at night wondering about things, waiting for something. The answer is to follow the strangest things, to question, and not get caught up in the routine and in the ways of society. Follow the... all are different ways of examining life or finding answers. Just checked the Oslo fan views and saw that it was played. Awesome.

I always thought it was, "it's five below in Aberdeen"

I sometime like my lyrics better..

Stone is a songwriting and rhythm guitar genius. McCready is an electric guitar genius. Jeff is a bass guitarist with a lot of soul and heart. Ed is a lyrics/vox genius. Good times!!!

This song will always be one of Pearl Jam's finest moments for me.

  • Iove this song.. I had to spend 11 years caring for my mother, and I'd listen to this song, and wonder what all of you were doing.. I was missing your after tour.. Show after show.. And knowing that one day I'd get there again. So when someone here said it was about us fans, I can totally see that! It kinda reminds me if my family.. How we usually seem to follow the strangest solutions to issues. We cannot be accused as thinking outside the box! But somehow this song reminds me both if my actual family and my PJ family. Either way, it is one of those songs that can make me sad, wistful, and hopeful all at once.

At least you made me smile.
It's funny how you can mis hear something, and once you know it's hard to hear it as you origianlly did.

Yes it is aparently some slightly depressed blond singer was born there.
But google away anyway, you'll find it's also high up at the east coast of Scotland. ;)

This has become a white whale song for me. So hauntingly beautiful. Would love to hear it live.
