KFC Hoax

Jason PJason P Posts: 19,138
A few weeks back a story came out where KFC employees asked a grandmother and her 3 year old grand-daughter leave the KFC because the girls face scars were bothering the other patrons. She had previously been mauled by her grandfathers's pit bulls. Of course KFC went into damage control and issued public apologies and offered $30K to help with medical bills. A go-fund-anthing site raised $135K and a plastic surgeon offered his services pro bono.

Of course this being what our society has devolved into, the story is turning out to be a scam based on security footage and meal reciept history. KFC is still going to donate the money, mainly because it is the right thing to do and you don't want to look like an asshole for punishing a 3 year old girl who was first mauled by her grandfather's pit bulls and then exploited by Gramma.

My question is whether or not the grandparents will face criminal charges. Prior to the hoax, the go-fund-anything site had only raised $600. The good thing is that the little girl will be getting healthcare that beforehand would not have been feasable. But how is it insured that all of the money collected goes to healthcare bills? And the negative attention KFC garnered had to affect sales.

One, this shows the continuous and amazing generosity of people.

Two (if indeed a scam), this shows yet again the propensity of some to take advantage and just be general pieces of shit.

I hope this isn't true, but the cynical side of me doesn't find it so far-fetched.

Either way, I'm glad the little girl will have some assistance in her ordeal.
  • the hoax needs to get as much attention as the incident. If KFC wishes to keep their promise of giving the money to the girl, they should put it in a trust or something where it can only be used for medical expenses directly from the hospitals or surgeons (not trumped up "misc expenses", like $5,000 in parking or some BS). The grandmother should be charged with fraud. And sentenced to eat nothing but KFC for the rest of her life. Where are the girl's parents? not in the picture? or complicit? charge them too if the latter. exploiting an injured little girl for personal gain is about as low as you can go.

KFC can profit from this negative exposure turned positive. And good for them- as they honour their promise.
I agree here where the money should have checks and balances to ensure it is spent appropriately.
The girl should be removed from her grandparents immediately. The dogs should be put down and the grandparents should be charged, sentenced, and imprisoned with 'something' for the attacks that have left the girl disfigured.
And, as in the 'some people's dogs' thread... another pitbull story piled on to the heap.

I would like to know if the grandparents are the legal guardians. Where is momma and poppa?

Looks like the family is standing true to their story, but still no mention of her parents.

Sorry to make this post about me but but the first thing that comes to my mind when I read this is that if KFC is into doing the right thing, why did I receive zero compensation for the concussion I suffered from when slipping and falling on the back of my head in a KFC three years ago? I had no witnesses so it was my word against theirs even though I spent a couple hours in the ER. The manager there must have coerced his employees into telling the same lie because their stories were all the same and all of them were lies. No, I can't prove that, but I didn't lie, I didn't want a concussion and I didn't go after KFC for blood money. I lost a month of work due to severe headaches and dizziness. I didn't ask KFC for much- I wanted them to cover my medical expenses (MRI, ER, etc.) and loss of time at work- that's it! They paid only part of my medical expenses and zero dollars for loss of time. That's all I got.

You and those damn hippie Birkenstocks. If you'd just strap on a pair of nice Nike cross trainer, you'd grip those greasy floors like a cheetah grips the African plains.

You'd also think they'd give you a couple coupons for some big crunch sandwiches. Man, why do those have to be shitty for you? They taste so good. Throw in those fries with the gravy. Mmmm.

Now if I'd had some New Balance on- but nooooo, had to be flat bottom skate shoes, LOL. Truth is, that floor was so wet, I should have been on a surf board. Well, screw that deep fried road kill. brian,
was there a sign up standing on the floor, "caution wet floor, walk nicely or bust your ass?"

if i walk into walmart & i trip & fall down all over the place why would i find me a lawyer to file a lawsuit against walmart because i myself slipped or tripped over a rug or an ant or a teddybear w/ a giant erection?

please help me understand why it is anyone's fault but my own?

pumping gas i could very easily trip over the gas hose as they hang all over the pump draping over & onto the concrete...

There was indeed, but it was not in the area of the floor that was wet, the area I crossed to pick up my order. They claim it was marked. Not true- and I was not alone to verify this but a spouse is not allowed to provide evidence in this kind of case. The space I walked across was wide open and unmarked. But they will never admit this and all I asked for was medical costs and loss of time- not some ticket to easy street- that's not my style. If they had marked the area properly this never would have happened. They screwed up but will never admit it. Oh well- can't change that now.

I found it to reek of a hoax from the get-go myself. The way I read it (could be wrong here I did smoke a few too much back when) was that people complained to management about the girl disturbing them with that look, and therefore management kicking them out.

Maybe I give American society a tad bit too much credit to do the right thing, but for both of those things to happen in sync with each other just felt way too made up. I could see one or the other. Just not both.

Anyways, I hope she gets the care that she needs both medically and emotionally.

Thank badbrains and JasonP- yeah, I'm doing ok. The security camera records? They were "lost". Yeah- ah huh. :-(

I agree, jethrojam, I hope that kids gets some good help. Maybe that's what grandma wanted all along- who knows. Better to have sought help in an honest manner though. Tough break for the kid- hopefully she gets the help she really needs.

if i fall down at my neighbor's backyard i can actually have my lawyer file a lawsuit against them & their insurnce company, this is true, yes? because i had been on the road for a couple of weeks & was a tired truck driver. this conversation actually happened to me. no i didn't fall but i was exhausted & a bit wobbly on my feet. my neighbor's asked me not to fall on their property as they were scared i'd have a lawsuit filed upon their old asses.

thank you western washington residence. bizarre thinking to me is all i gotta say

how about we have a bottle rocket war & throw dirt clods at each other as we drink bottles of whiskey & throw darts at one another. sometimes folks are no fun

brianlux i am sorry you cracked your head. walk slower & be aware of your surroundings i guess i don't know. at the pool & in the shower area i walk slower than my normal caterpillar crawl as the floor's surfaces are slippery. if & when i crash & burn it is not gonna be pretty. then you can give me a hard time please

Thank you Chadwick. Gravity has been indifferent to me. Or at least inconsistent. Or maybe I with it. I once climbed and lead three people down from 10,000 feet down to the base at 6,000 feet on a steep mountain at night in the moonlight without anyone getting scratch. When I used to ski and toboggan I took several dramatic spills and always, like a cat, landed on my feet. But I couldn't walk across a floor without cracking my skull. Obviously there are time when I owe gravity more respect. I'm not so agile anymore.

I sincerely hope you do not crash and burn but were that to happen, I would light a candle for you. It's the only ritual I know.

you & me both, brian. my body has fallen apart & probably 270% of this is my own fault. my bones are bad off & i zoom around at the high speeds of a caterpillar w/ his cane. if we did not have pain every moment of every day & night some of us would not make sense of feeling wonderful for once.

i will light your candle tonight just because

i am sorry if i came across harsh & whatnot. i am just fed up w/ the lawsuits in this country it is ridiculous. be well, good guy

^^^ You're always good in my book, Chadwick. I think of you more as forthright than harsh. Sometimes brutal honesty is what's called for. A great day to you, sir!
