While I do feel sorry for the woman, is it not the defense job to get their clients off?

Isn't her job supposed to be to keeper her client out of jail? I've never needed a defense attorney, nor do I have any legal training but I would think that lawyers do this knowingly to keep the people that pay them out of jail. That article does not surprise me at all, I would expect that from my attorney.

That sucks for the woman - seems like she's had a really tough time dealing with what happened to her. But wasn't Hillary just doing her job?? Plus, we're talking about something a 27 year old lawyer did nearly 40 years ago. Plus, people can change a lot in 40 years. But still, if that woman is pissed at Hillary, fair enough. Just don't see how it's relevant to anyone else presently.

Sounds like she is a champion for women until she needs to beat them in a court case (mind you one where the woman is a victim) or they need to smear them when they have affairs with her husband. Patterns....

Is anyone surprized that a lawyer did these things?
Johnny Cochran, Shipiro and Kardashian got O.J. aquitted of a double homocide.
Isn't that what slimey criminal defense attorneys do... use slimey tactics to support slimey stategies to get slimey defendants a plea bargain for a lesser sentance or a complete aquittal?

She gets $200k a speech, her husband made over $100M after leaving his Presidency and she says that they are not well off?

Talk about completely out of touch. Guess that whole income disparity goes right out the window.

heres the full quote this was pulled from, in context. certainly reads differently to me than the links headline

" Voters, Clinton said, “don’t see me as part of the problem because we pay ordinary income tax, unlike a lot of people who are truly well off, not to name names; and we’ve done it through the dint of hard work.” "
and the link to the interview the USA blurb was pulled from.

Well that can also be read as we are well off but we pay ordinary taxes unlike others......

That entire statement is an attempt to paint herself as a hard working regular tax paying person.

do they pay the percentage that someone in my tax bracket pays?

or do they pay the romney percentage of only the capital gains percentage?

also, how much money do they have in offshore accounts, or accounts in other countries that are in existence for the sole purpose of avoiding taxes??

funny how people claim to love this country, yet do all they can to avoid paying taxes to fund it.

Huh. I read gimmes post as speaking about the clintons rather the others referenced in the link.

There are very few, if any, upper level politicians who lack excessive wealth. The problems arise when they forget where they came from. On both sides.

I'm not sure what Mitt Romney has to do with this, plus I'm inclined to agree with him anyway so using as a counterpoint doesn't matter to me since I am not a Republican either.

Even Chelsea is doing well, I wonder if it's well off or not? She abandoned "lucrative careers" to work philanthropically w/her parents. She lives in a $10.5 million Gramercy Park apt-----

Yes, these people are looking out for the common man. Sure.
  • "unlike a lot of people who are truly well off"
I didn't actually read this as her saying they weren't well off. I read it as her saying that they are included in that group.

Seriously you guys believe that? She just commented on how they were "dead broke" when they left the White House. Stop being homers. She is clueless and out of touch.
  • I didn't see that part of the comment.

  • Yes, the Clintons are filthy rich now, no doubt. But why is it so difficult to believe they had debt when leaving the white house? Presidential salaries make you upper class, but not rich. What is it, like $400k per year? The president of the company i work for makes around half that and is upper middle class at best.

The minute they left the WH they bought a house for over $1M in NY so that she could run for Senate. She can cry me a river on how poor they were.
  • And for the record, i think it can be stated with pretty much certainty that all politicians at that level are out of touch with the common man/woman. No question in my mind. Which just emphasizes my earlier comment that politics will never change for the better until it is no longer exclusive to the super rich.

Yikes. Obviously, poor is the wrong term. But to put it in perspective, friends of mine who are lawyers bought their house in suburban Vancouver for $1 million a few years back. And they live in a fairly modest house. I would imagine house prices in NY would be about 5 times the prices in Van. And if they indeed had $12 million in debt, sure, they ate, but that just meant they were in the red millions of dollars. Poor to me is a lot different than poor to someone in Africa. Its all relative.

Again, not defending her. That is a terrible choice of words to use, especially in this economy.

Well, this is the house that the "dead broke" Clinton's paid $1.7M in 1999 for when she wanted to run for Senate. Doesn't look fairly modest to me, looks like a damn dream home. They bought it only to meet the requirement of living in the state prior to election day.

I don't know about any of you but that seems pretty well off to me. Heck I am paid pretty well, I am not well off like they are, but I feel pretty secure. She is simply oblivious.

They capitalized very quickly on their names after they left the WH ($250K for speaking engagements will help just about any financial issue), but when they left the WH they did have some slight financial problems. And at no point did she try to compare herself to truly impoverished people.
