TOTALLY off topic Sports Collectors

Hey guys,
I see people sell some stuff on here that is not PJ related all the time but still dont know if its really allowed. I have sports item i was going to list on the bay but I dont really ever sell stuff online and I guess there is a limit so it is not worth the hassle at the moment. I have a baseball from the 1920s its a Babe Ruth Home Run Special ball made by Spalding. On the backside Babe Ruth signed the ball. The signature is very faded but still visible and the front is very bold and clear. If anyone happens to collect sports memorabilia or know someone who might be interested let me know. I have had this thing since a family friend gave it to me 30 years ago. Its just collecting dust so I think its time to see if someone might treasure it more. I might trade for similar value in PJ posters if the right trade was found but most likely looking for cash. It is not authenticated, I just have not taken the time to spend the $300 they want to do it. I have pics and can provide more info. Mods if this is not allowed, delete, thanks all.

Might be worth it to get it authenticated. Could be worth thousands with the proper authentication.

I mainly collect autographs in person for my personal collection. Meeting the athlete and the interaction is really what's valuable for me. Don't really buy any.

Yeah I have considered it, but its $300 right out of the gate for the autograph to be authenticated and I always wondered how you could authenticate a 90 year old signature lol. I am sure it would be worth more with the cert and I might get it if I cant get any serious offers. I have done a lot of research and it meets all the criteria for a legit signature. It was given to me by a family friend before he died when I was a kid, he knew how much I loved baseball (especially the red sox). But its been sitting in drawers and boxes forever and I figure someone else really might get more out of it than I currently am.

If it's real it's a $1000 auto on that ball. Go get it authenticated...

Ok so this now has a tie in to PJ :) I went to pick up one of my PJ prints from my framer. He is currently slowing doing my whole collection. I have known him for a few years, our daughters played on the same club team which is how I met him. I knowHe collects and trades artwork and asked him if he knew anyone who traded sports items. he mentioned a good friend who did and I told him about the ball, long story short he hooked me up with him.

So this guy has owned 4-5 Ruth items in the past, current still has one and is part of a trading group of 10-12 guys. He believes it to be authentic based on a number of factors and so do the 2 others he shared images with. I met with him to see the ball in person and he is pretty much convinced its real. They all feel its probably about a $2000-2500 ball. The ball alone is worth about $500 and the signature adds value. They feel its only a 1.5 to 2 signature grade due to fading which greatly reduces the value. He said its possible I could get more on a good day through an auction but they will take a cut and require it to be authenticated and graded for $300-400, plus taxes. I would still maybe net $2k on a good day. He offered me $1000 on the spot and I told him thanks but no thanks. I plan on shopping it around to a few collectors I know who are yankee fans and see what happens. If its only with around $2k, I dont plan on going through authentication.
