I was chatting to an Aussie chick. She was gorgeous. We were discussing the South American tour, on which she had seen a few shows. Halfway through a word, amidst the crazy Scots next to us chanting 'Ole ole ole, Perul Jumm Perul Jumm', those lights came on and my heart stopped. Everyones' eyes were on the right hand side of the stage, waiting for the emergence. A few seconds passed. My heart was stationery, but my pulse was so rampant I could barely breathe anyway. Then they walked out. I couldn't believe it. I should've been looking at Mike, who I had idolised for years, but my eyes were on Ed, who happened to be wearing that legendary green shirt we had seen in all the DVDs, posters and magazines, badges attached. He picked up his guitar, suggesting Long Road. No, Breakerfall. No, Corduroy. No, Betterman.... The feedback kicked in. At this point I had heard no 2006 bootlegs so I was unfamiliar with this signature noise. Then the ebow bounced in. And then.... the drums. Oh, the drums. The floor began to shake and I was somehow convinced it was Undone that they were playing. I was being thrown about from side to side and pushed in every direction possible. Then came the riff. At that moment, everyone recognised WWS. After all the shows I saw last year, of all the openers, that was the best one. Release would've been nice, but WWS is now tarnished with sentiment.

    Yeah baby!!!

:o I remember it like it was 5 minutes ago  That entire day was the best MOMENT of my life... every bit of it. I dunno was it getting so far up to the top of the queue... realising we were getting in before the 10c'ers... seeing an empty room and a BARRIER and thinking 'this can't be it, surely? Where's all the other people?'... The lads coming out... those opening notes... it was all just soooo special and yes WWS will always be my PJ opener cos it was my first PJ song to hear live :o
    The Astoria??? Orgazmic!
    Verona??? it's all surmountable
Dublin 23.08.06 "The beauty of Ireland, right there!"
    Wembley? We all believe!
Copenhagen?? your light made us stars
    Chicago 07? And love
    What a different life
Had I not found this love with you

That's reasonable. Means you can meet folk, drink much beer, and get into the vibe of PJ fan mania in Londinium. Plus you save £20, which can be used for purposes of beer drinking, whilst simultaneously NOT giving it to some corporate fish belly.

I know, it's strange isn't it? You were at Verona so you witnessed Release, and that was probably still amazing, but not quite equal.

And Desperate Housewives was ace!! But you spoiled it by telling me people were gonna die. Ah at least they weren't primary characters eh? :D

The Astoria was like a mental asylum. Any disinterested, detached on-looker with dealings in all things psychiatric, would have had us all banged up in a padded cell and poked with sticks.

Seriously though, between the opening drums of WWS and Do the evolution, it's a blur. Half way through Do the evolution i realised that i was about to collapse and was soaking wet.

Can you imagine what we all looked like to Ed?

realising we were getting in before the 10c'ers...

do you mean the winning ticket people? cos thats all the tenclubbers there were and they had a special VIP seat on the balcony.

other than that there were no 10club tickets sold/given away... it was a free for all :D

best day of my life as well... except birth of my kids that is ... but it was better than my wedding day :o

EDIT: i dont mean the actual getting married bit or i didnt want to marry mrs dunk.. i mean in terms of the actual day!!!

Release was fab... especially in the rain. Inside job in Dublin was amazing as an opener. But WWS will always be the first one I heard so it will be special :) . I'm holding out for Long Road in Copenhagen though (since it's my birthday and my favourite song :o )

Sorry :o I didn't realise it was gonna spoil it :o but it WAS a brilliant episode.

  • The Astoria was just one of those nights when everything goes perfectly.

Chatting to fellow fans in the queue was a great way to open the evening. Not having to endure a support abnd who inevitably no one would be interested in.

Managing to secure an amazing view from the front of the raised section by the bar.

I think I'd been completely covinced that something was going to happen to stop this gig happening so when the lights finally went out, the headrush was like nothing I'd felt for any band before.

For me the defining moment of the night was Elderly Woman. Delivered poignantly and beautifully, you can't say it united the room as we were already there but it raised the emotional notch to something I've never seen any band achieve before.

If Wembley is even half as good, it'll be an amazing night
A democracy on paper, apparently well ordered, regularly subverted by irrational chaos.
