That line right there would be my number one reason for getting married in Vegas

:lol: We didn't our parents much time for anything. We put them in front of a fait accomplit (date, time, venue and who was coming - list was done, invitations printed that day). I guess having only 6 weeks for them to 'fret' wasn't enough!

Sian... as Dunk said, you guys do what you want, what fits in with your desires, plans, budget, etc. For once, it a day where you are fully allowed to be selfish and self centered! :D Friday is a good day too... people recover on the Saturday, check out the local area, go home and have another day to relax and sort out what they normally do at the week-end before going back to work. Or even say 'local' for an extra night!

and it's exactly why i responded to the Destination Weddings thread to say I'd get married somewhere abroad and then have a party when i came back..

Jill feels exactly the same... especially after her dad said to her the NIGHT before her wedding day that "it isn't your wedding, it's our celebration of your wedding"

he is the classic Victorian dad though...
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

should've said that you were going to cancel the wedding, save the money and bring your kids up as bastards!
and then stood back and watched how red he could go... ;)
Oh yeah? Well, I've had about enough of morons and halfwits, dolts, dunces, dullards and dumbbells - and you chowderhead yokel, you blithering hayseed, you - you've had enough of me?
  • Thanks everyone.

We've spoke to the venue and the Saturday is free too so it's entirely up to us. Saturday's ARE easier but more expensive... ohhhhh it's such a feckin' headache :( The co-ordinator is drawing up a contract for us and sending a draft via email tomorrow so we should be able to iron out any issues.

I tell you, if my mother would ever forgive me, i'd get married in Vegas tomorrow and just have a big party when we got back

I really do appreciate any advice y'all give me over the next 15 months - i'm gonna be a wreck by November 2011 - so thanks
Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...

... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.

Just do it on Friday and the money you 'saved', use it on yourselves and put it towards a honeymoon. Taking a Friday (or any day) off work for such an occasion is really nothing. Though Vegas would be fun ;)

And you won't be a wreck... with all your lists, betcha you will have everything organised by November 2010!!!!

    'morning all!

I think this is the worst part of the organisation... once you have the venue and a date, everything else can be done in your own time :D

Absolutely. Now we have a venue and a date, I've relaxed no end and i'm actually looking forward to doing little bits at a time.
The venue called last night, the Saturday is free so we've provisionally booked that too. Dave emailed our co-ordinator to ask if thing such as flowers, suits etc are drastically more expensive on a Saturday. We know that the registrar charges an extra £50 and the venue itself is no different but it'll be the external costs that soon mount up so we'd rather know. To be honest though, we'd rather it was on a Saturday.

And in terms of honeymonn, Rita, we don't have one anyway! We're asking guests to donate to a honeymoon fund instead of buying wedding gifts. Basically the fate of our honeymoon lies in the hands of our nearest and dearest. We're gonna go wherever we can afford when we get the total of the gift donations... could be Bali... more likely to be Bognor

Bloody good idea! You'll then probably be flying to far away, exotic places :D. Unless you really want to go to Bognor, of course.....

sounds good Sian... we asked for money as we already had all the usual gifts of toasters, kettles, towels, etc... we used the gift of dosh as a deposit for our first house. :)

you should always do whatever YOU want to do... you and Dave I mean... If people want to go and celebrate your marriage then it wouldnt matter if it was a Monday... they'd be there... I've been to a couple of Friday Weddings and its been totally fine. :)

Also, if it saves you money then people will understand as weddings are really expensive.

Always do what you want to do as it's your day... remember that... I regret 2 or 3 things about mine.

I was told by Jill's parents that I couldnt invite my 2 male cousins during the day ... even tho I had practically grown up with them ... yet they invited a woman from Denver that they had met on a holiday to the day part? and she brought her fucking mother... to top it off the bitch then met me in the church before it and said "Hi Duncan, I'm Cathy... I'm sure you've heard all about me!" "cathy who?" I said.

anyway, I got my cousins invited but only cos I said to mum in law that'd I'd pay for them myself.
Ah all you uncultured people obviously never watch four weddings  :D that's where I learned about wedding breakfast... I thought they were all bloody weirdos for the first few episodes.

Sian, lovin the venue :D and yep, do what you wanna do... we worried about the days and stuff for ages... but basically if we had it on a Saturday, we simply couldn't afford to get married  and we would have had to cut more people from our non wedding guest list
    The Astoria??? Orgazmic!
    Verona??? it's all surmountable
Dublin 23.08.06 "The beauty of Ireland, right there!"

Copenhagen?? your light made us stars
    Chicago 07? And love
    What a different life
