What, ACTUAL mince? as in minced cow?! :shock:Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...

Sian... make the pastry really short and don't bother even trying to make your own mincemeat - it's too late for that now anyway... get some good quality stuff from the supermarket (you might just want to add a drop or two of brandy in it!).
Emmi... not all that better but cold & flu tablets and neurofren keeping me going. Too much to do, inlaws coming today for a long week-end....
I love mulled wine, pears poached in mulled wine, dried fruit poached in mulled wine, mulled wine just for drinking, mulled wine over my cereals in the morning (just joking about that one though I did have an uncle who poured Grand Marnier over his cereals!).
Pip... as ilockyer said... good restraint. I do like a good mince pie (will mulled wine!). I love Christmas!0 -

yeah, don't use Real (tm) mince. i know it gets confusing them being called mince pies and supermarkets selling mince made from cows etc but, and you'll have to trust me on this, you don't make mince pies with mince, you make 'em with mincemeat.
there, glad i could help clear that one up for you.
just let me know when i stop being helpful.
does the word 'mince' now sound odd to you...?Oh yeah? Well, I've had about enough of morons and halfwits, dolts, dunces, dullards and dumbbells - and you chowderhead yokel, you blithering hayseed, you - you've had enough of me?0 -

I won't make my own mincemeat (although it did cross my mind, thanks for pointing it out it's too late now  ), i'll just add plenty of port to shop bought instead. We don't like brandy... icky stuff :?
Oh mulled wine!
How do I make that then? :oops:Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...

it's what Google was invented for...
or the quick, though not as nice way, is to buy mulled wine sachets from Sainsbury's (note: there are other supermarkets) and red wine and follow the instructions. or buy bottles of ready-made mulled wine.
i have a feeling Rita will have a more useful reply for you... i'm feeling... kinda... Friday-afternoon-ish... :oops:Oh yeah? does to me. :?jrd wrote:excellent, thankyou
in fact i've just heard that a large Amazon box has arrived at home... think i know what i'll be doing this weekend...jrd wrote:no, i think i'll be calling it 'glogg' from now on because i think that's an excellent name for it!
well, the reason I threw the word out there is cause the stuff we buy here, doesn't actually have wine in it or anything. and all in all, from what I've read, it's somewhat different from mulled wine so, glogg.(or in Finnish, 'glögi'.)
of course there is the stuff made of wine and whatnot. but I like mine non-alc too.jrd wrote:don't care. i'm just glad that it IS Friday...
oh I don't mind it being Friday at all. I'm just wondering how the week went by and I didn't seem to do much. hah. gotta work tomorrow morning though. but then seeing friends in the evening. and was happily surprised to find out today that I don't actually have to work on Sunday. I was sure I had the night shift. :geek:redrock wrote:Emmi... not all that better but cold & flu tablets and neurofren keeping me going. Too much to do, inlaws coming today for a long week-end....

Port is good too (I guess) What about Cointreau or Grand Marnier? That's good in the mince pies too!
Mulled wine.... dead easy. Wine (cheap or good stuff), sugar, an orange poked with a few cloves, a sliced orange (with the zest separate), a sliced lemon (with the zest separate), a stick or two of cinnamon, a bit of crushed ginger, a scrunched up bay leaf and a bit of brandy (which you don't like) or Cointreau - NO PORT!!!! If you don't like the Cointreau either, you don't need to add it.
Put it all in a pot and let simmer for a while (not boil or the alcohol will totally evaporate and it will lose it's taste). Once all nicely simmered and the flavours have mixed, take out all the bits and pieces (if there is still 'juice' left in the orange and lemon slices, squish them in the wine). Strain the mulled wine (to get all the last little bits and pieces out). When you serve, you can add a lil' slice of orange & lemon or the zests or whatever takes your fancy.
Proportions for the above are really dependant on taste and how much wine you start with and how cheap or not the wine is (the cheaper wine will probably need a bit more sugar!). If you're not making much, maybe use a satsuma or a couple of clementines instead of the oranges. Clementines (the little ones...) are REALLY nice - I prefer them to oranges in the mulled wine.
mmmmmm... mulled wine......0 -
