Yeah, saw that. I would pay a grand for a club show. If 500 of us would do the same, it would be the most kickass night ever. Or make it a thousand people and cut the price in half.
LOL You assume they would charge that for a one off show? That is probably for a venue on a tour where equipment and crew are already set. I imagine it would be more for a one off show, but cool nonetheless.

Would be so cool if we could get them to Red Rocks for a 10C only party when they are in Denver and it would be about $55 a person plus the cost to rent the venue. I wonder how much that could be?

Best. Idea. Ever. I am in. Let me know where to send my $55!
This is the seed for an awesome idea. We still need to pay the venue too, but if any band's fans could cut out the middle man of the promoter, it is Pearl Jam. The fans pool money together to book the venue and the band and have a series of tenclub only shows around the country. There are a ton of costs not being considered I am sure, but also plenty of costs that can be avoided by the fans going direct. We can do kickstarter to pool the money.
Rental fees for the venue, security, liability insurance, and don't forget to hire a crew of union stagehands. [around 75 to 100 people at $30.00 to $45.00 an hour for 18 to 20 hours] Not so cheap now, is it ? :-&

True...plus all the people selling beers, food and vodka/lemonades. A person can dream...
I bet a ton of people would climb the hill behind it too and just listen from the grass. That's what a lot of my friends did when they got shut out of Phish a few years back.

Shoot, for $50k more you can have Chris Cornell open for them.
Also, as someone said before this is just the cost for the band, you'll also need a venue unless you plan on having them play your basement jam space, or you local American Legion :-)

What's the overhead on concerts? If the average arena holds 18000 people. $500000/18000 is only $27.78/ticket that they retain? That doesn't seem like much at all. What happens to the other $50?

That's probably true. If I win a huge lottery I'm totally booking them.

But of course "the artist" includes everyone they employ as well - crews, club employees, managers, etc etc etc - as well as equipment and travel expenses and all that shit. Not sure about security.... who non-specialize security at a venue? Is it the venue who covers that?
