Jason Isbell, Patterson Hood and Mike Cooley

First time in nearly 7 years that these guys are getting back together to perform a "one night only" show. We picked up some tickets last week. Only a 700 seat theater down in Florence, Alabama. Looking forward to hearing some of the old DBT songs with these three guys back on stage.

I was able to score a single ticket to this, so I'll be making the trip to Florence from Atlanta. Saying I'm excited would be an understatement. Isbell is one of my favorite song writers of all time and I'm stoked to finally get to see him with Hood and Cooley.

I've seen Isbell solo twice and with DBT twice. It's great they are getting back together for this show. Isbell gave a great interview with Marc Maron a few months ago where he talked about leaving DBT. Very good listen.

Yeah, that Marc Maron podcast with Isbell was great. The Patterson Hood one the same week was good, too, but didn't hold my interest as much as the Isbell episode, honestly. I never got to see DBT when Isbell was in the band, but I've seen them both numerous times since the breakup. I think this will be around my 15th Isbell show. I grabbed one of the VIP tickets with a meet & greet, so hopefully there's a nice poster done up for the show that I can get signed.

I remember that Isbell was real pissy during that time of the breakup...and now I know why. Glad to hear they have remained friends through all of this.

The setlist will be very interesting...don't know if it will be strictly DBT-era Isbell stuff and a few covers or it they pull in material from all over.

  • Is Jason's ex still playing bass in DBT? Probably a dumb question I guess as he'd most likely be back in the band already...

No, Shonna left the band a couple years back, apparently on pretty bad terms.

shonna and jeff both left together

first 5 times i saw the dbt was when jason was in the band
it hasn't been the same ever since he left
love cooley and patterson but damn that 3 front singer/songwriter/geetar player thing was unbelievable. live at the 40 watt dvd is amazing+++
as much as i am kinda happy jason has come into his own and is getting great success i still wish the dbt would tour every so often WITH jason.

Jeff? You mean John Neff? He was in the band for a year after Shonna got the boot but now plays with her and they both seem to hold a grudge against DBT.

Jason got up with DBT in Huntsville a couple of years ago when Shonna was still in the band. He and Patterson have gotten on stage together a few times in the last two years.

This better have a great recording or DVD. No reason not to release it since it's for a good cause.

  • DBT with Isbell is epic. Saw them together 4 times. I have seen Isbell solo 3. Not a fan or the new record, seems like he just went thru the motions, I know people love it, just not me.

Really? It's by far the most personal thing he's ever done.

Man, that new album has really grown on me. It wasn't clicking for a while...but I really like all those songs. "Elephant" is one of his best. "Songs She Sang In The Shower"...good Lord...that's gold.

    Not showing up man.

Great show...all the DBT hits, solo stuff from Isbell and a great Wet Willie cover at the tail end. Isbell songs got a far bigger reaction from crowd...which was kind of weird. Really great to see these 3 back together playing music on stage.

They took to the stage at promptly 7pm and ended right before 10pm. 3 good hours of nothing but great stripped down acoustic songs.

Well worth the money and travel to the show.
