Dave = Cement mixer. I hear he was a dick or at least had a big monkey on his back and he definitely was a different personality type than the band. But God did demolish those drums.

I don't understand how MC isn't the clear runaway with this. Jack irons is a great studio drummer but that's it. Live is where PJ live which makes MC the easy choice.

Matt is the only drummer I know... I wasn't a fan until 03, and I have only seen Matt live.

I totally voted wrong in my sick stupor. Jack is great on two of my favorite Pearl Jam records BUT Matt is a fucking freight train, as Eddie has described him live. He's a great back-up vocalist to boot. I love both of their styles and personalities, ultimately, which makes it hard to vote. Dave A., although really fucking good, was too splishy-splashy on the cymbals for my taste. As for Krusen, it's hard to say as we never heard his full-potential.

Jack's albums have the best drums. Not sure if I should thank Jack's skills or the songwriting for that, but either way, the drums in No Code and Yield are definitely superior to the drums on all other albums. I think Matt could have done just as well if he'd been a member of the band during that time, as he is an awesome drummer.... although he could do a better job with getting really killer drums onto albums that he contributes to for PJ.
But Matt's my fave as far as his overall role with the band goes. :)

Ur gonna point to one song that rarely gets played to prove your point? I'm sorry but Matt is easily the better live drummer. What he does night in and night out is not to be underestimated and couldn't be done by any other of the listed drummers. And IMO that's what it comes down to.

What's great to see is how much PJ's music evolves from drummer to drummer. Each drummer has brought a considerably different and more unique sound to their music. Love each drummmer in their own right, with each having different strengths and talents.

It's really between Matt, Jack and Dave. All three are great. Dave is amazing, but loses me a bit with some of his style. Jack sometimes fell short live but was very creative. Matt is just an all around incredible, tasteful, powerful, goddamn genius of a drummer.

ohh gosh Matt's singing good? He has ruined bootlegs for me on his background vocals being too high.

Yeah, the dude's got a great voice. His back-ups on the recorded version of Sirens are fantastic and live he's almost always spot on. If you heard something bad or weird on a boot well you can chalk that up to him having a bad night, which all the band's members have.

However, Matt Chamberlain is the only one I've met. He played a small show in Saskatoon in like....2006 or some shit... along with Ben Fucking Shepherd and Saskatoon's prodigy blues rock boy, Jordan Cook. They fucking WAILED the place down with raw HEAVY blues rock. The kid can solo like a fucking great white shark. Matt played a wicked tight show. Got a group photo with them and had em sign my "Alive" CD.

Matt all the way. Backup vocals, playing 3 hour shows, amazing drummer. Runaway choice.
I've been fortunate enough to see Pearl Jam live.

Perhaps it is rarely played because Pearl Jam in it's current state can not play IMT as was heard by fans of the day.

I think Dave brought the most funk, Jack made things tribal, and Matt epitomizes rock and roll. Also, I'd rank them in that order.
