There are two idiots of the highest order at work here:

1. Dooshbag woman.
2. Dooshbag lawyer.

Both lack ethics and morals. Both need a good, solid social shunning. Simon's lawyer needs a business boycott as well.

Whether or not she was impaired, not paying attention, whatever...this isn't even what I'd call a frivolous lawsuit, but a sadly fucked up and deluded one.

Can this woman be held accountable for the costs when (hopefully) being admonished out of the courtroom?

This all sounds like lawyer bullshit stuff to me. The lawsuit sounds like a counter-suit against the boy's family lawsuit against her. They are suing her (driver) for $900,000 (Can) and her figure is $1.35 million. Sounds like courtroom shennagins to get someone else to pay... namely, the county for not maintaining the road, posting signs and providing a sidewalk or bike lane.
And lawyers wonder why people don't like lawyers.

Also... I thought that this kind of stuff only happened in the U.S. Doesn't Canada have a 'Loser Pays' thing going?

The fact that her husband was in the following car, is or was a cop and suggested that she leave the scene of the crime and then they don't even stick the boozer rater in her face is why cops and they way they get away with things on and off the clock prevents most of the rest of society to take them at face value.

Well, you are wrong about that kind of stuff only happening in the U.S.. In fact last year, there was an anonymous woman in Ontario who wrote a horrible letter to a mother of an autistic child, telling her to euthanize her child while calling her own daughter normal. It really pissed off people not just in Canada, but around the world as well.
