I think this could be classified under Clusterfuck.PJ_Soul said:
This wasn't a clusterfuck. The Lightning Bolt release was a clusterfuck. This was just par for the course as far as limited PJ vinyl goes (although the Newbury 5 per customer limit is pretty fucking weird. I assume they do that for the benefit of record stores who are ordering from them, but if so, they have to change their methods so that record stores are not bunched in with the purchasing public).BRAIN0FJAY said:Just about everything surrounding this (Coke) release was a clusterf*ck from the word "go"... Here's hoping I can find a decent soul that scarfed up a handful of the Coke to keep flippers from them and will sell to true PJ fans without asking an arm, leg, and first born. "Hoping" being the operative word there... Here's to hope... \m/
First 10C's description of the item was so far off base, it's laughable. But, at least they got that "limited" word right.
Newbury's 5/per customer is actually aimed at Flippers, IMO. Most of these records don't have the same demand that the PJ one does, soooo, if they can just get them all off the shelves, then they don't have to sit on them. It's just trying to sell the most copies possible.
Shameful in this case and they know it. Customers have made them very aware. That's why I think we'll see more of these in the future...

My local record store is essentially a flipper and sells vinyl for ebay prices (No Code and Yield priced at $200+). Doesnt exactly make me want to get in there and dig through their racks.
Found: Soundgarden Hyde Park DVD (Thank you for the gift!)

Newbury's five per customer is fucking insane for a limited release...and that's putting it mildly.
I guess you're probably right about this being par for the course. That said, "par" is a really screwed up exercise around here....So much talk it makes no sense at all...0 -

We used to have our "to go to" store in the area, from an old friend of a family member. When the Mad Season was released, he said we can give him a list and he looks what he can do for us. Then the night before he called and said we were all set. We went to another store because I wanted to set up a friend with a Mad Season too. We were lucky and got one there for I think 25 dollars (or what the regular price was). Then we went to "our" store and the guy gave it to us for 45 bucks. I was so pissed that I never want to step foot in his store again. It was not just this one thing, he just came across as not very sympathetic and customer friendly. Thankfully, there are more record stores in the area that have good stuff and are happy about us being their customers.
Please, Pearl Jam, consider a Benaroya Hall vinyl reissue!http://community.pearljam.com/discussion/148993/please-pearl-jam-consider-a-vinyl-benaroya-hall-re-issue0 -
I agree it is insane. I also believe they had no idea what they were dealing with! There are plenty of exclusive limited presses that didn't sell out at all for them. I would bet lots of money they would limit it next time. Side note- BrainofJay, you ever live in the central NY area? Someone I knew a long time ago who was responsible for getting me into this band spelled his name Jay and made reference to the song when yield came out. Joking they made it for him, haha. Shot in the dark but you never know!BRAIN0FJAY said:Newbury's five per customer is fucking insane for a limited release...and that's putting it mildly.

Was 10C's description way off?? I thought it was fine except they said it had to do with RSD, which was a pretty irrelevant mistake, since both they and Newbury were selling well before RSD anyway and that was made clear.RedMosquito02 said:

That's right Leeze, I had forgotten that they cancelled parts of orders for 5. Well that's something I guess.
Seriously doubt that that limit has to do with them aiming at flippers. They wouldn't benefit from that at all, would they??Post edited by PJ_Soul onWith all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata0 -
Just a thought: is it possible they limited 5 per for other records stores? That is the only good reason I can think of.
Anyone receive theirs from 10C yet?

Yeah, that's what I mean. I think that limit is there because record stores purchase from their website just like regular customers do. Which is pretty stupid if true. Most companies sell separately (and wholesale) to retailers.oysterjar said:Just a thought: is it possible they limited 5 per for other records stores? That is the only good reason I can think of.

It was your comment that made me think that. Kind of crazy, there were a bunch of newly popped up record stores via ebay because of this.PJ_Soul said:

If anybody was looking to grab the blue and gold Strokes vinyl and missed it, there is someone on fleabay with two copies for 39 bucks each. Marked up just a smidge but it might be the cheapest it gets for awhile.0

I was lucky enough to grab one, ten is a hole in my collection of PJ, sound is really good, would love to hear how it compares to the original.0

I did as well(and of course it shipped on the 10th and hasn't arrived yet, about 35-40 miles from their warehouse in Brighton MA, I could have walked there to pick it up and walked back home quicker than our esteemed postal service delivers it), just curious which stores locals got theirs at today.
