Must mean it's a pretty big hit? 9 millions views is alot when compared to other artists. Is it played a lot on the states on radio etc? Is it by now a well known song in public?

It's a hit. But I don't think it's a well known song in public.

Not shabby at all really:

US Billboard Hot 100 76
US Hot Rock Songs (Billboard) 11
US Alternative Songs (Billboard) 4
US Mainstream Rock (Billboard) 6
US Rock Digital Songs 7
US Triple A (Billboard) 1
US Adult Pop Songs (Billboard) 34
US Rock Airplay[26] 4
Well, it's one louder, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your guitar. Where can you go from there? Where?

It's not "Lady Gaga" big, but it's gotten a good amount of mainstream recognition.

i've had more than one friend say that they were surprised to hear a new PJ song on the mainstream pop station regularly, in between Blurred Lines and Happy...

cheers

Sirens is becoming one of their most played songs on YouTube. Others here see this is as not a very important or insightful stat, but I still like reporting it for those that do.

Yeah, most of my friends have never heard "Sirens". In terms of "general Pearl Jam" knowledge, they still only know "Jeremy" or "Alive" (and I live in Seattle!).

I was riding to lunch with a 22 year old co-worker, frat boy from Michigan State, and Sirens came on. He said, "come on radio, play something that isn't embarrassing." It was funny, but kind of sad. I love the song, but a lot of people do not.

Actually a lot of people do like the song. It wouldn't have close to 11 million without much promotion if it wasn't good.

I finally got a chance to listen to my red LB this morning (thank you PJ_Soul!!!) and the two songs that I just had to hear were Pendulum and Sirens. Sirens is so much better than the haters give it credit for.

It's a great song. I know several casual at best PJ fans who were impressed when the single was released. Not sure they could have a bigger hit in this environment, barring a soundtrack song.

Hahaha. It can be embarrassing. I have a love/hate relationship with the song. Sometimes when I listen to it, I see visions of a "Glee" dance montage complete with girls in satin dresses stepping up to the microphone for background vocals. Other times, I look at the guys in awe over how much time has passed and how much the song makes sense over the arc of their career. I showed the video to my students today and then played the Pink Pop "Black." They were most interested in how old the band is, but they were impressed. I'm glad I gave them a proper Pearl Jam introduction today.
