Does this have any deeper meaning? I feel like this is a profound lyric, but I'm thinking it might be a lot less profound than it seems. Does it just mean they play all night?

    Not sure, but I feel it is a play on the idea that rain will be followed by sun.
    Negative things will pass they are just the opening act for the actual play.
    But The whole thin is a little abstract isn't it.
    The real question is; Is it profound for you?

    Yeah, that says a lot! I always thought of it as night/sun, not rain/sun or as an opening act for the main event. Love your interpretation!

    The beginning of the verse is about rain so
    that just always gave me this impression.

    Like a cloud dropping rain,
    I'm discarding all thought.
    I'll dry up leaving puddles on the ground.

    I feel it's a way of saying that the character is a "less important" cohort of the Sun. The real question is, "What does the Sun represent?"

    Maybe the Sun represents enlightenment? Maybe it represents bringer of brightness, bringer of joy?

    Maybe it represents brightness, as in, Giver of Light that gives every thing and every body life?!

    Maybe it means both or something else that's positive? No matter what, the arrival of the Sun is good! :)

    I think he was foreshadowing the amount of lyrics/music about to come.

    This is a stretch, but how about the possible dual meaning of "I'm like an opening band for the son?" Like how we pave the way for our children where hopefully they have a chance to shine from the rewards of our hard work.

    It's certainly a nice view point.
    You can hear it as you wish, it's free for interpertaion.
    Maybe it will be a challange to get the rest of the verse to fit with that. :D
