I have along story which I wont get into too much - I drove from Ontario, Canada to Hartford, the next day up the Connecticut / Rhode Island coast beach hopping, and up to Mansfirld for night one. I took my 16 year old son (my nefew who I adopted when he was 8 - he came to Canada from Hawaii where he was born) It was his first concert and my 4th and 5th time seeing PJ.
We had a road trip to remember driving the great land, walking through the underbelly of Hartford, seeing the ocean (it's been 20 years for me), and up to the shows.
There is nothing like this band. The shows are unbelievable, Eddie's singing is beyond incredible - he didn't miss a note - high, low, screaming endlessly, (Blood at Hartford being a BIG highlight for me) - They all have energy and are playing so well. The interaction with the crowd is a spiritual communion. It is like living in flight.
It was great for my son, living in Canada, no where near Hawaii, no where near Hawaiians but for his bother and sister- to see Boom up there, the big man, head bobbing, - Love reign o'er me (awesome) - a great influence for him - Thanks BOOM
Eddie being a freedom fighter - How can you separate politics from Pearl Jam? You can't. They have always made a statement with their music. Look at the sheep on VS, the drowning Earth on Yield, No Code, Come on! It's always been about stirring the shit up! I wan't to hear anti-war talk. I want to feel the "fuck you" feeling. Eddie is talking war but also talks about freedom of women (Betterman) - freedom of love (Comatose) - freedom in any form - freedom to be yourself, stand up for yourself, and dont take shit from those that squeeze you into conformity.
Who else is doing this?
Listen to the lyrics
The emotion and the crowd bring it all to a universal place where we are free if even for a moment
There is no better gift to the world that could be given
Thank you Pearl Jam
A light in the world
In Canada I imagine Pearl Jam, and Eddie Vedder to represent what America is really all about. Freedom and resistance to the shitstem and this world that tells you what you are supposed to be. I could not imagine not having this influence in my life.
Without the artists and protest what would America be?
It is great to be alive
