you are a raindrop in your look
your low knees and tall shoes
like your silence howling
forever you commend
the forward to your back
the nursery to ives

that morning when it was raining and you did not go outside
I looked and the clock took the shape of the room
the passing glance and walk past
the hours down the hall (everything down the hall)
morning sucked the night
and I knew

I knew that when there was a flood
the water could take your baby away
and for every sea bird
for every victory
for every song held in utter love
I did too

everyone knew you
everyone layed down and held each other's hands
everybody closed their eyes and shook to see where you would land

and when I openend mine
warm was the welcome I knew for 100 years
and 100 years to come
the joy inside
for all the sorrow to see
flutter by
