Rival

Does this song kick buttinski or what?

Do you know why this song kicks so much ass I mean buttinski? It's because those first two chords are not really chords. They're more like two smushes.

They're Stone saying "here, take these, you bastardts".

".....take these two smushes".

This song totally kicks buttinski!! The whole song rocks but it's when Ed does his woohoo yell that is when the goosebumps kick in, love that part.
This song just has it all goin' on from the groove to the obscure yet direct lyrics.

Sometimes it's not the song that makes you emotional it's the people and things that come to your mind when you hear it.

Since the polished days of the LB album, Infallible has taken over the prestigious solo slot of obscure.

One of my favourite songs just for the lyrical content alone but it is backed up by one of the coolest riffs too.

I love Rival too, especially because it has all these unusual little twists. I wish they would dig it out and play it again. Maybe we get lucky in Europe?

Only been played 20 times, only 6 times since 2001. Not been played since 2010. This is #2 on my White Whale list, only behind Mankind and just in front of Get Right. Bring back the rival. Fantastic song, just so unique, you know exactly what it is with those first 2 smushes.

I got to see it night 2 in Mansfield back in 2003. One of my top 10 songs from PJ. The band loves to harbor some of their best tracks in my opinion. Rival is one they truly need to rehearse...a lot. Do it!

    Totally agree.

We were listening to this just the other evening after a long and unknown hiatus. Our scaredy-cat George was none too pleased with the growling at the beginning. Then again, he's been frightened by soy sauce, candlelight, and air.

(and I thought a buttinski was a meddler?!)

Yeah, I really wish they'd play Rival more often! I don't understand why this song would be a rarity. It's so awesome.

Rival was a high point from what was a really great show in Cincy back in 2000. Eddie was very animated that night. Wish there was a poster for that show...

A great song - and the best song that was omitted from all the LB tour setlists.

    Pity.

Oh what awesomeness! It's settled in nicely at #5 all time song for me. Heard it in Philly at the first PJ show I ever attended. Wouldn't mind seeing it another time or twelve.
