Hendrix Little Wing

I have been listening to a few PJ little wings and was wondering about others thoughts on the best Hendrix version. Particularly one I might be able to acquire on vinyl without losing an arm and/or leg.

    Not sure about the best, but it is on Axis Bold as Love, as well as In the West (which is live)/

    Winterland LP boxset has 2 good live versions.

    I think that's one of those songs that other artists like SRV made better than its creator. Love Hendrix with all due respect.

    My all time favorite version of Little Wing can be found on Derek and the Dominos Live at the Fillmore. Couldn't agree more with you on it truly is a song that others did better. Kind of fitting for Jimi, considering he killed All Along theWatchtower and Hey Joe and made them his own. Poetic Justice? Damn I just went 6 in the morning drunk deep...

    The original from "axis: bold as love" is, has been and probably always will be my favorite. I have both the mono and stereo version of the album but I still like the stereo version better. There's also a cool early work-in-progress version on the posthumous LP "South Saturn Delta" as well as two different excellent live versions on "The Jimi Hendrix Concerts" and, as mentioned, "Hendrix in the West" and another excellent studio version (and this one probably will cost you that arm and a leg) on the 4 LP boxed set from MCA/Experience Hendrix "The Jimi Hendrix Experience".

    I think the Axis version is really the best by a large margin. Hendrix's smooth voice fits perfectly.

    SRV's is good and maybe even ups the emotional impact, but the lack of vocals takes away from it.

    A lot of other versions really lack the nuance necessary to bring it home. The Summerfest PJ version is good, but every version since they brought it back are pretty lacking.
