let's go, people!

i am a asian food fanatic. enthusiastically lately means i am ON & ecstatic.
wok oil heats up & fills the nostrils with the wonderment from a oriental spice garden
garlic, ginger, onion & cilantro

stir fry has begun

this here thread is designed & held together by love, kindness & the passion for great oriental cuisine & the preparation of

tonight i am folding up crab rangoon in egg roll wraps insread of using won ton wraps. won ton wraps are smaller & irritate me when the filling comes out during frying. often times i use no meat at all & it is an all veggie & rice night.

tonight i think i will either stir fry pork or i'll prepare tilapia, fried rice & crab rangoon
we make plenty as the freezer enjoys the company

thank you for your time,
chad

Love me some Asian food. I make Thai pork dumplings that are delish! Ground pork with scallions, ginger, and garlic steamed and dipped in a chili ginger sauce. Yummy!
Are we getting something out of this all-encompassing trip?

Seems my preconceptions are what should have been burned...

    I AM MINE
  • I love Asian food too, especially Thai. I'm not really good at cooking it though. But I have made a Tom Kha Gai a couple of times and it was good.

Digging Asian food is, unfortunately, one of those things my husband and I don't have in common.

In the end, it's inconsequential...but fuck me if it isn't frustrating!

(though cool with going solo in this realm)

    I'm a sucker for sushi.
Spicy peanut sauce, could guzzle it (actually, I have)
    Lo mein
    Pork bao buns
    Korean BBQ
Pad thai - the good stuff, not that greasy shit. No skimping on the shrimp either.

There used to be a place in downtown LA, not sure if it's around anymore - Mon Kee. They'd bring out these hugeass platters of crab sauteed with ginger, garlic and scallions. Eating them was a viscerally satisfying and sloppy experience.

An aside...the nostalgic side of me misses the old-school Chinese restaurants of my childhood. The standard dishes like sweet & sour chicken, spareribs and then those almond and fortune cookies. And wedge of orange.

I know what I'm having for lunch tomorrow.
  • I have a dear Filipino friend who has schooled me in the art form of Lumpia making/wrapping. Served with some sweet chili sauce...doesnt get much better

i would throughly be set if i had a asian friend who had a kitchen where i slept, learned & slept.
see i'd moved right on in to learn their ways of badassness

brussel sprouts, snow peas, carrots, cabbage, alfalfa sprouts, green onion, bok choy, mustard leaf & whatever else stir fried

    nicely done with hot tea

I don't cook a lot of Asian food, mostly because I don't know how. Where is a good place to start? Any particular favorite Asian foods or dishes? I haven't had any American-Asian food that I haven't liked yet.

    Wind this thing up.

I love Asian food and love to cook it. Don't bother cooking it unless you have a decent Asian market near you. Lots of key ingredients you just can't get at the supermarket!
My favorites are (excluding the Middle East...which I also love)
    Thai
    Vietnamese
    Indian
    Japanese

Chinese food is my least favorite....by far!
