A Stearns County judge sentenced 18-year-old Jesse Smithers to 10 years on Thursday. Smithers admitted to delivering the deadly punch in a St. Cloud alley almost a year and a half ago.
On Sept. 21, 2012, Colton Gleason was walking with friends when a car pulled up, and Smithers got out and punched him. Colton died after falling and hitting his head.

    Wouldn't blame him one bit for being there and waiting for him.

    Silly, ridiculous penal system that simply has no teeth.

    Tragic, getting yourself locked up as well over it would be an ridiculous thing to do though, I'm sure his son would not want his father to go to jail revenging him.

    Perhaps, but his son is a box of ashes right now- he'd never know. If the father couldn't stand the thought of the rat, punk, loser 'hamming it up with his rat friends'... and needed a little more justice than 'the fireside chat'... then it wouldn't be so ridiculous. Such cases are extremely personal and its easy for us to say what should and shouldn't be. If this was my son, randomly attacked by some loser for shits and giggles... I'd be livid at the courts and would not be resting too easily knowing that shitbagger is set to walk after 5 years.

    Bottom line: the legal/penal system is the only ridiculous thing in this sad tale: consistently failing survivors of violent crimes while working hard for the perpetrator's rights.

    people get more time for armed robbery,there has been enough coverage on this knock-out game that an 18 year old would know how dangerous the game is and besides if the attacker was involved in this what else has he been up to that he had not been caught for ?,my thought is 20 years minimum.
