To start his comeback tour Garth Brooks announced he would play Croke Park in Dublin, capacity 80,000+. First 2 concerts sold out in minutes so he added a 3rd. That sold out in minutes so he added a 4th. That sold out in minutes so he added a 5th. That sold out in minutes. That's 1 ticket for every 10 Irish people. (Of course there will be overseas travellers but still). Unreal.

I've seen Garth twice and he puts on fantastic show. Of course I'm an Oklahoman and probably partial, but his voice is fantastic live and his band has been on the mark as well.

An influx of an estimated $68M into the Irish economy denied by a town council and a few hundred complaint letters ....

    http://www.cnn.com/2014/07/08/showbiz/garth-brooks-dublin-canceled/

"The city council approved Friday, Saturday and Sunday shows, but rejected licenses for Monday and Tuesday night concerts. The city noted the stadium was "in a heavily populated residential area" and five nights of Garth Brooks would be "an over intensification of use of the stadium."

The traffic, noise and "potential antisocial behaviour" by Brooks fans could add up to "an unacceptable level of disruption" for Dublin residents, the council said."

For a government that had to be bailed out because they were broke this is such a joke. Only in Ireland.
