Granpa Mojo

This is a tune I wrote for my dear de-part-ed land-lord George
Melody inspired by Tom Waits Cemetery Polka, Gun Street Girl, Anywhere I lay my head and Apple ate'cha
Well Granpa Mojo sure did like his pretty little things
He’d get right up off that porch when he heard those young ones sing
Well Granpa Mojo sure did like his pretty little things
And when they saw him coming
They’d sing and sing and sing
He knew he had a mission
To ply his wares and trade
But poor ol’Granpa Mojo
Never could keep a garden nor a maid
His house it was despairing
For all the wares he did keep
Never could throw out a single thing
Nor tend to the wandering sheep
He was a man of comfort and loved his little dog too
He’d set right down in the middle of a pile
And sing straight up with you
Well Granpa Mojo sure did like his pretty little things
He’d get right up off that porch when he heard those young ones sing
Well Granpa Mojo sure did like his pretty little things
And when they saw him coming
They’d sing and sing and sing
He spent his time in the navy
And sailed the seven seas
Never heard a single siren
That didn’t bring him to his knees
He never was a man for praying
Nor did he have the need
For I tell you my kind neighbours
The sirens he did feed
Oh he never left them hungry
When they set down by his side
For he filled them with his story
Yeah he gave them quite the ride
Well Granpa Mojo sure did like his pretty little things
And when they saw him coming
They’d sing and sing and sing
Well one day he went walking
And flew back to his porch
For he heard that death knell ringing
And Out he did put his torch
Sirens say his story is over
And he told me pay it no heed
For he was a man in his glory
Then he rode off on his thundering steed
The maids began to tidy
The garden beds he'd sown
And sure enough those pretty little things
Bloomed in the garden full grown
Well Granpa Mojo sure did like his pretty little things
He’d get right up off that porch when he heard those young ones sing
Well Granpa Mojo sure did like his pretty little things
And when he saw them coming
He'd sing and sing and sing
