Welcome to the Pearl Jam Message Pit's trading forum. Please remember that the spirit of the policy here is meant to keep the trading activities on a fan-to-fan and personal basis, not to create a side business.

You can trade and set a reasonable price here for Pearl Jam memorabilia as long as the item is not available elsewhere on the site.

No flipping* posters, or selling illegal items such as illegal bootlegs from bootleggers, homemade CDs and DVDs, items purchased marked "not for resale", etc.

No auctions are allowed. Links to yours or others' auctions or eBay or stores are not ok.

No selling of alcoholic beverages is allowed. That includes Faithfull Ale. There are laws and license requirements for that item and we're not equipped to handle it here in the forums.

Please see the Posting Guidelines and Ten Club rules to be sure you are in compliance with all site rules/legalities.

Posting Guidelines: http://community.pearljam.com/discussion/228366/forum-posting-guidelines

Privacy Policy and Terms Of Use: http://pearljam.com/helpfaq?faq=1069

* Flipping is buying items (from Ten Club or merch booth, etc.) with the intent to resell for a profit.

It's not easy having a functioning Ebay account in good standing. Lots of hoops a seller has to jump through before they can sell anything. As a buyer, you are well protected through Ebay & Paypal.
It also costs 10% of the Ebay sold price. Not to mention listing fees.
Paypal charges 3% the sell price.
My point:
I want to educate my friends how to navigate the BS. If you already get it, this doesn't apply to you.
Let's remember, Lost Dogs, isn't taking 10% from you, so let your set prices reflect, at the least, 10%, less, the going ebay price. I don't like to see people/friends get takin advantage of. There are predators on this board whom want only to take advantage of your passion.
Try to find a true fan to sell your stuff to and be fair and kind
IT'S EVOLUTION BABY!!!!!

Does it bother anyone else when sellers ask you to "pay as a gift" through Paypal, like that 3% is so bad that they can't pay it.

I wonder why those people just don't raise their price $5, and that way all parties are protected through Paypal.

There are only a couple people on the forum that I would send a payment as a gift, and even then most of the time I would rather throw in a couple extra bucks to have the protection.

Funny thing is, in German paypal, you cannot mark the payment like this. You just make a payment. No gift or commercial option is available.
  • Most times I find the prices more realistic on ebay. Have had some good trades on here though.

  • Still a couple of ridiculous FS threads coming up.
If you want to use Ebay as an accurate gauge on the market; here's how:
Use the key words for the item you are searching.
    Go to Advanced Search.
    Click on Sold listings.
There you go. Thats how much your stuff is worth minus 13% ebay & paypal fees.
I know a buyer can pay whatever they want. I know some people have more money than they know what to do with. This thread is for people who don't.

There are some great people on here. I got hooked up by a fellow Canadian on the forum with a opened but near mint copy of riot act for $60 a few years ago and another member sent me a the vitalogy deluxe box set for $50 bc he knew I wanted the orphum vinyl. The one thing it will teach you is to pay it forward. So ignore the greedy flipping dick bags and pass on the karma.

I won't pay for anything as a gift on PayPal as a rule (unless i know the peraon really well). I want the protection. I'll pay the extra fee instead... hey, it's nice if the seller eats the fees, but i don't care enough to mind if they ask. It's not even so much about trusting the seller. It's more the "you never know" factor.

www.popsike.com holds a longer history than just the last 60-90 days ebay presents in their completed listings. Try it.

  • Right on. After 90 days is not necessarily current market, but I hear ya. All tools should be utilized. And this thread is about the wonderful and generous people here on Lost Dogs. Just the newbies and few others it may apply to.
    IT'S EVOLUTION BABY!!!!!
  • The only thing better than the crazy high FS threads (which there aren't a lot of anymore) are the people who expect to be hooked up at cost for everything. It's like "hey I know we have never traded or pm'd before... But that Kong I see you have, I'll give you $100 shipped for it" and then get pissy when you don't do it talking about how you should hook them up just because.

There have been some awesome people here on the boards that I love hooking up if I can but when people don't go 50% below market value for you... Just get over yourself.

Other than that, carry on since I need someone to take some posters off my hands now that I moved.

I don't know if I'd go as far to call someone a fool. I mean, most people around these parts know what values are on items that are being offered in this forum. If not, I would assume most people do a little research on the item. If someone lists a sought after item for more than "ebay" or "expressobeans" says is the average, oh well don't buy it. I mean who is the bigger fool, the person selling or the person buying. If 20% over what "ebay" says is average falls into your budget and you got the item you wanted does anyone really lose? Lost Dogs was not created so fans could get "basement" prices and "hot" deals from other fans. It was created for people to buy and sell PJ items that others are in search of, no matter what the "average" prices are currently. Yes set a reasonable price, but if you don't think the price is reasonable don't purchase it and move along.

  • Who said anything about "basement" items or "hot deals"? No relevance. I believe u are one of the fools who are trying to justify their actions. If so, you suck. If not, carry on. I get that most are keen enough to figure this out. This post just may not be for you... :D

  • What a joke... I mean seriously, is this thread even necessary? I may not be in the majority here, but I feel the need to reply considering this is just another case of someone trying to police the forum and bully people who have the right to sell an item at any price they want.

First off, I didn't join a "brotherhood" or family, or anything else other than a fan club. With that alone, I should be able to sell/trade an item without any of your suggestions above. If it's overpriced than it won't sell, simple as that. I can bump it every hour on the hour and the result will still be the same.

I have always seen Lost Dogs as a place I can hopefully find some PJ items and NOT have to battle every other person on the planet using ebay. For that alone, I'm happy to pay whatever the OP lists, given I think it's fair.

Am I the only one that sees the person offering it up here before it hits ebay as good enough? The people on here are TRYING to do this FAN CLUB a favor. Be grateful.

I totally agree. This thread is completely inappropriate and shouldn't even exist. If you don't like the price of something don't buy it. But please, let's stop trying to tell people what they do with their own property.

when i sell something i give the buyer the option. i let them know im on the good trader's list, but i also tell them its ultimelt their choice. i say u can send as a gift which doesnt give you the protection, but if you want the protection make sure to add the %3 that paypal charges me. never had any complaints. i also make sure i track everything i send out to protect myself on the back end

I will pay those fees myself without complaint if the seller doesn't pay for it, and I don't REALLY mind, but must admit that I find it kind of stange that the seller doesn't just spring for the 3%. I mean, even for a $300 item, that's only $9. Seems like a reasonable amount for the seller to absorb IMO. I'm only saying that because it's being talked about though. I'd never say anything to a seller directly or mention it in or let it affect my feedback or anything.
