Another, much more recent, Lindley.  Blues on an eleven string fretless oud?  Insane!  I love this guy!

John Butler is worth a mention as well. (It was your 11 string comment that reminded me to post this Brian!)

This is one of many versions of 'Ocean'...

"worth a mention" might be the biggest understatement of this thread.  Gordrush, that piece left me... no words, just goosebumps.

He's not bad is he? :) I've been lucky enough to see the John Butler Trio a bunch of times over the years and Ocean is always a showstopper. It's evolved since he first started playing it, so there's a little something different each time. This is one of my favourite versions, I've lost count of how many times I've played it.

He actually started playing Ocean around 20 years ago when he was busking. Now that would have been something to see...

And if you feel like dancing, there's always this...

I don't think that Robert Smith gets enough credit as a guitarist. I mean, if you had to live with this guy, you'd probably want to murder him for the annoying insect-like noises that are coming out of his amp. But then you hear what he builds out of those buzzes and chirps, and it's just staggering.

No mention of Richard Thompson yet? Or is he in the "etc." portion of the "Gods" list?

I really love the guitar sounds that Mike Johnson contributed to Mark Lanegan's early albums

I can't believe Richard Thompson didn't get mentioned sooner. He is one of the greats -- one of the greatest -- and is one hell of a songwriter, to boot. Getting to see him play "1952 Vincent Black Lightning" live was a bucket-list event for me (I had second-row seats to see him in Newark! Wow!!). I just wish he would tour more on the West Coast, so I could see him again.

I'll never tire of sharing this link -- in my opinion, one of the ten best things on the internet: (same song as ceska shared, I just love that he's sitting in his home or a hotel room or something):

Excellent!  I also saw Lindley and El-Rayo X at the Cotati Cabaret years back and they tore the place up.  Everyone was moving, dancing, smiling, cheering, sweating.  One hot band!

Not exactly lesser known, but George Thorogood is not taken seriously enough, I saw him live a week after Buddy Guy at the same venue and he could hang with Buddy all night long.
George is pretty damn good and puts on a  fun show. Saw him play a couple years back.

Also check out Joe Stump if you're impressed by Shred Guitar. He's one of the fastest players in the world. Saw him earlier this year and it was mindblowing. Plus my friend was drumming for him so it was very cool.

Billy Duffy from The Cult. He's also a brilliant songwriter. I really love how the majority of their music is written by he and Ian Astbury. His tones are some of my favorites. Jamming on The Cult's records and demos, and wow! Underrated, for sure.

He may not exactly be a ‘guitar great’ as such, but I’ve always admired Xavier Rudd’s ability to do this...
