Just looked at the 10 day forecast at weather.com and it says it will be 102 on Saturday and 101 on Sunday. Does anyone remember what time the show starts? They should wait till at least 8 or later.

  • wow...this makes me kinda me not want to go now :/ that is a bit hot for my comfort level...and circumstances.

I saw 2 shows within the last week, and I'm sort-of just playing the Gorge shows by ear - as it is, I'm still waiting on my friend to get back in touch with me who offered to get me a pass in (on the crewlist) for the shows, but I'm getting concerned that it may not happen. Although I have a rental car reserved for the weekend...I still have to fly into town, drive there and have no pre-planned place to stay ... I mean, it wouldn't be the first time I slept in a rental-car for pearljam... But the heat, my gawd...how on earth can this be weather forecast be right? globalwarming indeed!!
I have friends who say they have a spot reserved for camping, but they're just in a van...and i'm invited, but i wonder how comfortable that will be? is there a place to shower...i'm curious about these and many other things, on top of the heat advisory. Should I stay or should I go? should I even be asking myself these questions without having absolute confirmation that the guy i know will get me on the list? I really hate to be a pest and write again, or call and leave some rediculous message about getting me in and whatnot, when he is well-aware that's pretty much all I'm calling for? I mean he offered when we were together in person, but I just haven't heard back yet? Busy or just changed his mind?? Gaaah, what to do! Do I just go ahead and go, assuming he will remember to add me? Continue to be a bother and keep trying to call/write and risk affecting our friendship??? man, i swear I hate this feeling. I have spent so much money already on this (and 8 years of PJ tours). I think the gorge could be an incredible experience, I wish I had planned a long time ago for this ... I wish i didn't have to rely on a 'list' to get entrance to the show! Damn I am sad today... and it's HOT as hell where I am, and just thinking about the sweldering heat there is not making my gorge journey seem any easier :/ Thanks for listening..i''m sorry i went off. I feel lost w/out a plan and it's a terrible feeling... Am I the only one who gets myself into these situations?

This may be right, but from my previous Gorge experiences, it gets pretty cold once the sun goes down. Bring a sweatshirt along - no matter how hot it is during the day!

...btw, the "tour" section says that doors open at 4:00, and the show starts at 7:00. And no opening act!

It will drop at least 30 degrees when the sun goes down and for the nine shows I have seen at the Gorge there is always a decent cool breeze too. Brining a long sleeve T or a light sweater is a great idea. You will see a lot of people that fry during the day and show up with no shirt or a tank and they are freezing their asses off mid-show because they are burnt and starting to sober up.

if you walk into the gate at 4, it will be around 100.

last year's gorge show started at 7, but it wasn't nearly as hot. by the time they finished the acoustic set and took the break, the sun was down enough to cool things off. it was pretty comfortable last year, didn't need the long sleeve.......

I went camping last weekend with the Family at Wanapum state park...like 15 miles down river from the Gorge... Temps were AWSOME only hope they hold up. 80-90 during the day upper 60-75 nights... It was DAMN windy down on the Columbia as always...but that doesnt tend to carry up to the gorge campsite... Just keep that in mind if you are staying elsewhere(Stake your Tent down GOOD!) Ok so nothing too new... I never put any sleave on. Ill be chillin outside my trailer under the awning...as will many others I imagine...Just bring your own beer and your more than welcome to sit under it with us.

  • A few things:

    1) There's no shade anywhere. If you're short, you might find shade behind a tall person. The sun rises around 5:15AM and sets around 9PM. Be prepared for a LOT of sun between shows.

    2) It'll be blistering hot and dry - perfect for heat exhaustion & sunburn. Think desert. Bring plenty of water to drink, sunblock, a wide hat, and a good pair of shades.

    3) There are showers in the campground, but they tend to get grimey really fast. You're better off bringing a few 5 gallon water tanks and using that to wash. (Bring an extra just for drinking water.)

    4) It's not so much that it gets cold, but it will get cooler, and if you're sunburnt and accustomed to 100 degrees, 70 will feel awfully chilly, particularly if a breeze kicks up, which will hopefully happen.

    5) I've already said bring water to drink, but bring twice as much as you'll think you'll need. Even if you don't drink it, you can at least dump it on your head. :)

I went last year in September and it was very hot before the show; it will be unbearable until about 7. Then it will begin to cool. However, do not miss this show if you can go to it. The Gorge is an amazing place to see a show and these are the last 2 shows of this leg. I am predicting 3 hr plus sets each not with possible opening acoustic sets like September.

ive been watching the weather too....and ugh...triple digit temps make me want to vomit. and it wont get COLD enough for a fuckin sweater...you wussies! last september it was perfect....but that was about 80 during the day and probably mid 60s after the sun went down...but it felt good. im sure if its 100 during the day...theres no need for anything but lots of water...i feel bad for you people who are camping in that...
its gonna be hot sweaty and everyone is gonna smell! lol

anyone know if gorge will let us bring in unopened bottles of water? or will they sacrafice killing us just so they can get 4 bucks for a small bottle of water inside?

at least it should be dry heat. ugh...but fuck its gonna be hot.

yeah, it will not be 100 when Pj takes the stage at 7.

Am I the only one who has never been cold in the middle of summer at the Gorge??? i have been going there and camping over there for 10 plus years.....and I personally think EVERYONE makes way too big a deal about it "getting cold at night." If I have been in the sun all day and even sun burnt.....70 degrees feels good.....I have never...ever put on long pants or a long sleeved shirt in Eastern Washington in the middle of the summer.

Even at last years PJ show.....not once during the show did it even get to a point where it was "cold".

Last year, they wouldn't let you bring in open or unopened bottles of water. I stood on the other side of the gate waiting for my buds and saw so many people either dump the bottles in the can or chug them.........Gorge stands have to make their money too i guess.

oh and another hint.......BIG beers were at the first stand on the left as you come in the gate. the rest of the stands had smaller beers (12 oz cans dumped in a cup). at least that's the way I remember it.......could have had too many of them BIG beers.

Exactly! I always bring extra water, because the retard who parks next to you will inevitably bring none and will be begging you to share yours.

Also, the next morning after the 1st show, wake up early and buy ice at the little general store by the showers. The ice will be sold out by 10 am. Seriously!

You've been lucky. I've seen many shows at the Gorge....from June to Sept.....always gets chilly at night. People forget that you are at 5,000 feet elevation and no protection from wind.

Ohh I can't wait for people bitching how hot it was. Serious I hope everyone going takes care of themselves and they all make it back home safe.

Water and sunblock and some beer sure. But keep drinking that water.
  • ya, i'll echo that. just hoping for no heat stroke problems. really don't want to see fellow jammers passin' out left and right. the heat exhaustion isn't so much the problem...it's the passing out and slamming one's head into something.

the gorge is kinda far away from any serious medical institution, i believe.
